Change default Google account [SOLVED]

The easiest way to change accounts is to go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Gmail and clear all data. I also did it for gTalk and all other Google related apps. This created a notification that I needed to redo the setup wizard with a link in the notification to start it. This fixed everything and didn't have to worry about a hard-reset.

I'm posting this so hopefully it helps someone else out. I spent the better part of a day searching Google/forums (including this one) and the only for sure solution I came across was to hard reset the phone.

Since I bought this phone unlocked off of eBay I was very reluctant to do a hard reset and "restore factory settings". I don't have the unlock code nor a T mobile SIM so if the restore undid my unlock, I'd be SOL.

Best,

w.

PS I did try and post for help here too, but got no response. Then I happened across the solution, so please forgive me if I'm overreaching here.... just trying to save someone else the time and trouble.

Well, I guess I did use the wrong words (although I did use the obvious ones, like: "account reset", "account change", "default account reset", "change google account", etc...). I spent more than 7 hours searching for the answer, and even asked for help on this very forum-- all leading me to nowhere. So, when I happened across the information, I decided to make a thread about the solution I came across here with an obvious and descriptive title hoping it would save someone the trouble I went through (and thankfully it looks like it's working).

Thanks mStyle (and everyone else). It's much appreciated to know that the post wasn't made in vain-- and the fact that it helped out even one person makes it all worth the while.

Cheers!

This was driving me nuts too till I found this thread

I hope they add an account switching feature later. It was much easier for me to just create a new one then to try to modify one of the ones I already had.

Thank you so much for posting this for our members. I love it when our members find helpful information and are willing to share it with the community.

Just thought I'd chime in and say that this post helped me as well. I recently switched my personal domain name's e-mail to be handled by Google Apps and wanted to get my G1 synced with it.

Clearing Gmail and Gmail Storage, and then running the Gmail application on the phone brought up the Account Wizard. The phone had no issue with linking up to my Google Apps hosted domain.

Technically you could -- if the phone comes with anycut already installed. But if you get a phone that it used, or has another account on it and it doesn't already have anycut installed on it, you can't access the store to download anycut. Therefore really the only way I could find to get to the setup wizard was as is posted above.

I tried the method you used, and it still doesn't work at the time, still displays that annoying sign-in with the account I don't even own.

I have also been wanting to change my gmail account. I think this will work, but you'll lose the old gmail and the contacts and other stuff.

However, it's possible to export your contacts to a file, and from there to import it to the new gmail account. I don't have that much gmail, but I need to keep all my phone numbers and stuff.

I don't have the time to try this, but it kinda makes sense. I wish we could get some support from Google or TMobile on this, but I wouldn't hold my breath on this.

I have one question about this before I do this...

If I change accounts, will I lose my contacts phone numbers stored in the phone? I dont care about the contacts and email addresses that were saved in my gmail account, I'm just worried about my 100 + contacts and their phone numbers that I saved into my phone when I signed up for T Mobile.

Not exactly what your asking but I think the same principle applies...

My sim card was acting up awhile back so I went to tmobile and they gave me a new one. Even though all my contacts where backed up on my gmail account they still did a xfer of my contacts onto the new sim card. So long story short im sure tmobile can backup your contacts on your phone then you can switch your gmail account and they will put your contacts back. Then when you sync your contacts will show up in the new gmail account.

Ok so say I open up the phone, and tap the Contacts Icon. For me, it brings up a list of everyone I programmed in my phone with their numbers, etc. This right now is synced to my current gmail account. If I clear the gmail data and create a new gmail account, are these contacts going to stay in the phone? Or are they cleared out as well?

Ok guys, sad to say I'm not sure that this works anymore. It seems that the original post was before the 1.5 release, so they may have changed this.

I turned auto sync off, cleared the data from gmail, gmail storage, google talk, google chat, etc etc anything that had the words gmail in them. I got no prompt. I also went into my gmail, and I just get a notification saying "waiting for sync" and that's it.

Hello,

Im not sure where to post.

I bought a mobile phone from china no name brand. With google android 1.6

Everything works fine on the phone except the internet. I cant get 3g, H or even gsm symbol to show up..

I have tried calling the phone provider, vodafone to help set up the apn etc. and still had no success.

Anyone know what it could be or how can it be fixed.?
