Change a flat tire on '01 Ford Explorer Sport?

So we just got a flat tire, and we have the jack, the L shaped tool (sorry I dont know anything about changing a tire).. And my boyfriend says that there isnt a long metal rod. It should be in the back with all of the other tools.. can you just tell me if it should be there in the back? We apparently need that tool in order to get the spare down.. Id much rather find this tool and have my boyfriend do it rather than take it to Firestone and give then $21 just to change a spare :-/ Please help!!! :)
 
cant drive it with flat an d really the bar you need should be in bag with rest of things you could type into search box like

most of time the rod comes a part you have to slide it all together most of time there are pictures to guide you but you should be able to see it done online.. an dif you have to maybe a can of fix a flat coul d get you to any shop to fix flat
