Chances of a Sailor Moon redub?

This is probably too idealistic in this down time of anime, but what are the chances and how great would it be if a company like Funimation or Bandai, got the distribution license to Sailor Moon, and started to release duel Japanease / English audio season box sets for Sailor Moon, and redubbed the series?

Re dub every episode uncut and unedited. I would love to see that, but it is probably just a dream that is very unlikely to ever happen.

Maybe if there is another anime boom.

BTW if you could cast the english cast of todays top anime actors, who would you cast?

Who would play each Sailor Scout? I defentely would cast Michelle Ruff, Stephanie Sheh, and Kate Higgins. As for who will play Usagi herself, I don't know.

There seems to be some kind of legal reason that Toei is refusing to allow the series to be re-released internationally. I don't know what that reason is, but I don't think it's been resolved yet.

Concerning an actual re-release, I'm not sure how well that would work. Sailor Moon was pretty popular in it's heyday of 2000 and 2001, but it was always second to DBZ. If it was paired with a complete TV run, than an uncut DVD redub could sell pretty good. But IMO it would be better for Toei to pull a Dragon Ball Kai and convert to show to HD and release THAT in the states. Then it could have a chance to recapture what it once had.

Since it is an establish show and the network it self uses nostalgic as a big part of its markerint on shows like Robot Chicken, or the recent airing of the GI Joe movie, Sailor Moon could be a good fit for Adult Swim.

Though it's intergaltic elements, would also make it a fit on Sci Fi.

I know this might sound greedy, but such a thing happen, I hope they remaster it. The animation is very dated.

I don't know, I'm kinda nostalgic for "Serena" and "Darien".

But hey, if it means that I can actually own (or even SEE) a copy, I'll take it.

I don't see this very likely, especially not at this time. Dubbing companies nowadays are more concerned with releasing more recent shows, so going back to redub Sailor Moon seems like something that would be a tad too late. Especially since there are quite a few fans that actually enjoyed the previously released dub.

I'd love to see a Kai-style abridging of BSSM since the show as it stanRAB is one of the flabbiest and plothole-ridden* of Toei's entire catalog. The problem I see though is that the el-cheapo 16mm retrograde production values of the show barely hold up in SD and would likely look worse blown up to 1080.

*Sailor Moon R in particular is a mess of continuity glitches and unanswered questions

It would be an interesting idea, but I don't think that it's going to happen anytime soon. From what I heard, there was some legal issues revolving the series that Toei created so that companies couldn't pick up the series. I think it had something to do with the live-action version of Sailor Moon and they didn't want the anime to interfere with that or something like that. I could see FUNimation doing a pretty nice job with a redub if they could get it, based on how they're doing with One Piece, but I can't see anyone getting the rights to Sailor Moon in the distant future.

TOEI already remastered it, and I'm thinking about getting my hanRAB on those DVD's, but....I don't see a Sailor Moon redub happening anytime soon, and honestly I'm still mad at TOEI, although I've gotten over my anger, but still, and honestly the only company I can see with that show is FUNimation, but really I'm just fine without a dub, besides Usagi's antics are easily understandable

As for casting the Sailor Scouts, I posted that on the "Fantasy Dub Casting Thread"
(whether you call them Sailor Senshi or Sailor Scouts, it gets the same point across)

FUNi seems to have the best relationship with Toei (DBZ, One Piece), so if anyone can convince them to relicense Sailor Moon, it's FUNi.

The last rumor I heard is that Toei wants to bundle license the Sailor Moon anime with the live action series. So if a company wants the anime, they have to pay extra for it because the live action series would be included.

Well FUNi is still picking up prevously licensed shows, they justpicked up Heat Guy J which if I'm not mistaked was already fully released in America.

The only difference is Sailor Moon would need to be redubbed if it's ever relicened.

Let's just pretend in a fantasy scenereo that FUNi picks up the rights to Sailor Moon, weather it is tv airings, streaming, or DVD releases, would they start with Sailor Stars, the last season of the show? The only season that was not dubbed at all.

Start with the "previously unreleased internationaly" season before they start with the first season.

As much as I would love to see Sailor Moon to be relicensed and redubbed including the never released in America Stars season, I sincerely doubt it as Toei has been sitting on the license since 2003 and have shown absolutely no interest in selling it to anyone.

What? If anything, the anime was a improvement over the original manga as it fixed various plot holes the manga had in it and use it monster of the day filler episodes to expand upon and flesh out the personalities of the various characters (especially the villains) in the series.
