CF heat question

So I got a heat shield with my slip ons when I bought them used. Not sure what brand it is. I have long noticed it has a slight green/yellow tinge to it and not the normal dark gray color. Is this caused by the heat? I assume it's a cheap piece that changed color with time. It's annoying the crap outta me now that I have the pipes coated black, which makes it stand out more. Just wondering if anyone with a nicer quality piece has had this issue

Hey Tap,

I remember seeing a few people talking about something similar, just can't rember exactly.

Here is a thread folks are talking about CF "discolor":

Hope this helps!

yeah its definately due to the heat and all carbon will go yellowish in extreme heat

I fitted carboard washers to both sides of the bolts and heavily foiled the inside...so far after about 2000kms no issues

apply heat foil within the CF exhaust cover. You can get it in an auto part store. It is just like tape. easy installation. I just install on the exhaust cover last weekend. so far so good. CF are not bullet proof to heat....

Yes CF will discolor from heat but only at very very high temps. Usually higher than even your exhaust heat (F1 undertrays don't discolor and the exhaust is routed right through them).

The thing that discolors CF the most is UV light. I'm guessing the CF you have does not have an anti-UV clear-coat on it. Any unprotected Carbon that see sunlight will discolor very quickly. No heat shield will keep this form happening (unless you put it over the clear coat). Make sure when you buy CF products you investigate the kind of clear the company uses and what process they use for lay-up and application.

We use THERMO-TEC Shield Tape .
It has a good isulating barrier under the foil.

You'll need to clean off all the mold release (and dirt on a used piece). I use 3m trim adhesive on the edges so it stays on better over the long haul.
