Ceramic Questions - Cracking before glazing and underglaze on woodfiring?

I have two novice pottery questions -
1 - If there are minor surface cracks on a piece, will the glaze fix these, or highlight them?
2 - What happens if a piece is underglazed and then woodfired? (Whole thing or selectively)
