Centurion

True, as is "Southern Comfort" I guess.
I only caught on when I saw Walter Hill credited at the end. I wondered why it all seemed so familiar. More fun than "Black Death" anyway.:)

Watching it at the mo, about 20mins in, the Romans are speaking English, and the English are speaking somefink foreign and are being subtitled. I'm not quite sure yet whom I'm supposed to be rooting for. Hopefully this won't turn out to be yet another UK film that's (in effect) a "look at what England did wrong" film.

It makes sense for the main characters to speak english seeing as we are the viewers, however from what I remember there is no english people in this film only the picts in scotland who would not have spoke english.

So no it is not a look what england did wrong asits the Romans vs the Scots.

^that's alright then :)

- maybe that's the problem with watching films on such a small tv, any descriptive text at the start of the movie goes unread cos it's just too damn small. :( - guess I should be asking Santa for a big fkn plazma

I watched Centurion this week, thought it was all right, nothing outstanding (Dog Soldiers and The Descent are still Marshall's best work) but had some good battle scenes, overall a 3 out of 5.

I actually thought it bore more of a resemblence to Walter Hill's The Warriors...a 'gang' trapped behind enemy lines trying to get back to their own turf.

It was...ok. Far too much reliance on gore and violence, which seems to be Marshall's forte. But the plotting and acting are not that great.
