CD-R backed up photos will not read disk, please help?

About 7-8 years ago I backed up a bunch of photos and music on cd-r disks. I do not remember what I used but it was some sort of backup disk software that I believe came with my dvd burner, It may have been a windows me thing.
Now since I have a new computer with vista the disks are not recognized, it is showing 0 bits used and 0 bites free.

Is there a software out there that will scan the disk and help me recover the lost photos??

It is just possible that the software that created the disk has done so in a different way to usual.8-((

Thereby making the disk unreadable in normal windows explorer etc.

Try the cd's in another pc if you can otherwise try and remember what software t was that you used to make the cd's.
