Catching a Dodge ball with your legs?

I was playing dodge ball with my friends today and one person from the opposing team threw the ball at my friend. It bounced on the ground and my friend caught it with his legs. The person from the other team says is counts as him out. While my team agrees that he should be safe considering he still caught it just not with his hands. Who is right?
