I need some advice please. Last week I started experiencing pain in my right lower abdominal area. This lasted over a period of three days. One day it was quite bad. One night it kept me awake a lot. It would come in waves of pain and ocassionally I would almost double over. I went to the doctor on Friday since weekend was coming up. Of course, typical for me, that day nor since have I had any pain. The doctor did some blood work which came back okay. I had a total hysterectomy Sept. '08 so have no ovaries or anything else. I do have my appendix which I thought could be the problem even though my gynecologist didn't want to remove it because he said that older adults rarely have appendicitis (I'm 61). The CAT scan that I had before my hysterectomy showed small kidney stones ..... 2 in right kidney, 1 in left. I've had a kidney stone before and this pain didn't seem the same at all.
QUESTION........ the doctor ordered a CAT scan. I questioned it because I had read some bad info about them. I also developed a sinus/allergy problem over the weekend and had coughing spells and didn't want to have the scan because of the coughing. I decided that since I had had no problem since Friday that I just wouldn't have it so I canceled it for this morning. My doctor's PA called with the results of the blood work and I told her that I decided to not have this and she thought that it was a mistake since I was having pain from something and that they were not dangerous unless you had too many too close and 1 1/2 yrs. was certainly far apart for one. My doctor also said that she was checking for appendix problems or possible kidney stone. I'm beginning to rethink my decision. Would you go ahead or wait it out? I don't like having radiation BUT the PA said putting things off like this is what gets you into trouble.
