Casting James Bond

I think Clive Owen would have made a good bond.

At first when i heard he was in the running i thought he'd be terrible, but after seeing him recently in quite a few films I've realised he's actually a very good actor who i think would have made the role his own

James Bond is also SCOTTISH lol

This never stopped george lazenby or timothy dalton or roger moore or pierce brosnan being cast tho did it?

The best and only TRUE bond in my opinion was Sean Connery

I disagree. I think he was always supposed to be a white man. I just fail to see why people feel the need to change his skin colour.

James Bond has always been white. There are plenty more white actors around who are suitable for the role when Daniel Craig steps aside. In my opinion, the only reason a black man would be cast would be for PC reasons rather than who was genuinely suited to the role.

In the same way, I'd hate to see an American in the role. It has to be someone British, or someone who can carry off a decent British accent. Gun-toting Yanks tend not to be able to do this!

James Bond's parents are Andrew Bond, a Scotsman and Monique Delacroix, from Canton de Vaud, Switzerland. Their nationalities were established in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

From wikipedia :)

so my point still stanRAB, if bond can't be black then he shouldn't be english lol

He should be scottish and swiz ;)

Daniel Craig is a miserable sod. Surely he would have realised that the interviews etc would all be part of the Bond process.

Send in Julian McMahon!

But as we said here yesterday he was always written as half Scottish but thats never been enforced either.
Giving the role to someone like Colin Salmon would be because he is a bloody good actor and perfect for the role, not because he was black!!

But you have to admit that being half-Scottish isn't something as obvious or as blatant as skin colour! And if that was such a major part of the storyline, it could easily be implied. Skin colour is just not the same, there's no two ways about it.

Anyway, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I personally don't think a black Bond will ever happen and if it does I'm sure I'd still watch the film and enjoy it because I love Bond films. But I'd still be thinking it was a bit silly.

If people insist on having a black secret agent, maybe they could do some form of spin off - about other 00-agents. Similar adventures etc, just not called James Bond.

I think it depenRAB how you see james bond.

For me james bond isn't ONE person, it's a secret agent NAME, the same as 007 could be given to ANYONE.

This for me explains how he's been going so long. One james bond retires and anther takes his place claiming his title and number.

So if this is a fair point then there is no reason why a black actor or even a WOMAN could play james bond (or perhaps jane? lol)

It's like the Prince of Wales, it's just a title passed down as people move on and the next takes over.

Matt Damon? snort. Have you not seen Team America? ;)

And I was thoroughly disappointed when Daniel Craig was so miserable in interviews and things. Not because I wanted him to be more Bond like, but because it is the role of a lifetime and one of the most popular fictional characters ever created - how can he be such a git about being interviewed and the significance of it to Bond fans everywhere?

I'm just happy that Casino Royale was back to good old fashioned bond, stunts by real people, all be it slightly unrealistic some of it but atleast not anything like die another day.

That was, for me anyway, the worst bond film and only because of all the CGI.

Glad to see bond back on track a little.

I was pissed off enough when Kingpin was black in Daredevil movies

I have grown up with kingpin being some powerful, agressive , arrogant white male and it really got my goat when they changed him. Not feeling the idea of a black bond at all

Not that it makes my opinion any more valid but I am black myself

Jack Davenport
David Tennant - odd choice, i know, but could be good, but has probably made himself too well known as Doctor Who
Robert Pattinson - Diggory boy in Harry Potter 4th film, but a bit too young

I think this point is pretty much put across at the beginning of Casino Royale, when we see Daniel Craig's Bond get his 00 status. There's no attempt to backdate it to when Connery was Bond, so this means Bond can be any colour/ethnicity or gender.

And Felix Leiter has changed colour repeatedly, so much so, that he always has to tell us who he is!
