Casino Royale

Oh ... I thought you were going to be discussing the Bond film Casino Royale with David Niven as Bond ... the one that is showing on ITV now

I just got around to seeing this... I was a bit disappointed overall. The opening chase scene went on too long, as did the final romance bit; it really dragged. The plot was good in the first half, but got a bit lost towarRAB the end. Eg it was never clear
when Vesper first got compromised. It could have been (a) before the game began, or (b) during the second playing session, or (c) when Bond was being tortured, or (d) while they were on holiday in Venice... M seemed to think it was earlier rather than later, but who knows? My preference is (b) as it fits with the arrival of the terrorists, and would explain why she is crying in the shower.[/quote]Daniel Craig was OK, except for me he is too old by about 10 years. The card game didn't work as well as I remember it did in the book; it just wasn't dramatic enough. Possibly because they changed the game to poker.

(c) when bond was being tortured! as mr white came in and "rescued" her!!

and she cries in the shower as she's never seen a person killed before .....

and as for the return of "Q" ..... why not name the department that ..... Q for Question! and how about this, why not make it an enemy department first that MI6 are investigating ..... maybe run by a bald man with a scar :D

you see, twist it about a bit, give it a new spin .....

and as for my wee puzzle, i'll say only this .....
"yellow golf cap"
:D

and i've bought the cd single, so you should too!!

Filming begins on Bond 22 early next year, and along with Daniel Craig at least one CR actor is confirmed for a return...
Giancarlo Giannini, who played Rene Mathis, the supposed Double Agent.

Linky

I think that was rather the point. Bond in the original book, was not a very nice man. They just made him nicer for the movies, and the later books. DC played him as he appears on the page - with a burgeoning drink problem (bit not the chain smoking of the book, I notice).
The idea, according to the director, was that once you hear the theme, you'll be aware of the previous movies, and be removed from the suspended disbelief that maybe Bond wouldn't be okay

I have to say that I'm slightly confused concerning the new Bond film. One point is, why have they made a prequel film where Bond has just obtained his 00-number (from the same M that took over in Goldeneye) and set before Dr. No, as the official 21st Bond film?

Does this then mean, that after 44 years of 20 Bond films. They are gonna perhaps remake them all again, to fit into this new film?

This movie was good -- well it had its moments.. don't like how it was rather long.. though I like the more "modern" approach they took with this Bond movie that sets it apart from the rest of the collection ;)

He didn't become 'bond' (i.e. the hardened character' till the vesper thing) now he is the guy we all love - I reckon number 2 will be a 'bit' lighter in places but not a lot

...hee hee number 2

I firmly believe Daniel Craig will do a great job as JB.

Remember all the stick Daniel Craig got just after he was revealed as the new James Bond? Because he doesn't like guns, because he wore a lifejacket on a boat, because he can't drive manual cars....yawn. So what? And my favourite - he had all his front teeth smashed out in a fight scene! (For "all his front teeth smashed out" read "had one crown fall out")

What about those losers who started the "Craig Not Bond" website campaign. Where are they now? You'll note their website isn't there any more! Losers.

Can't wait for Casino Royale.

I am soooo looking forward to this film. I too believe Daniel Craig will do quite well and be a perfect Bond. Nothing wrong with shaking things up a bit and changing things around!

The only problems I have is that the trailer just shows too much it seems...

i went to watch Casino Royal yesterday , yes it was awesome , Daniel did a great job in my view and i hope he continues this trend .but recent 007's have lacked a great bad guy ..

I agree with you completely, I saw the film yesterday and it was a v.good imo interpretation of the book, which is as you say is v. gritty and dark and there isn't much humour. I don't remember Bond using gadgets in the book either.

The only problem I had with the film was the rock song whatever it was it just wasn't v.bondy. The lyrics were great though.
I also hate seeing people being strangled/suffacating/drowning so I could barely watch right at the begining and the end especially.

Best Bond film I've ever seen. It wasn't difficult to surpass the other 20 though. I'm not a fan of the movie bond, but I loved this.

In the novels Mathis was a good ally of Bond.

The movie tries to confuse his allegiance
although it's rumoured the sequel will see Mathis become a triple agent, working against the Organisation.
