Casino Royale

yeah cant wait to see the new JB danilel craig looks like the best JB i loved all the JM films and this DOESNT look dissapointing im gonna see it the day it comes out HOPE IT DOES WELL IN THE BOX OFFICE :D

Not sure I'd call the CGI in DAD awesome. Some of it looked worse than the cheesy back projection in the Moore films from the 80's, especially the bit where Brosnan 'parachuted' off the cliff and 'rode' the giant wave. That was truly awful.

It wasn't without its merits though, notably in a strong theme song by Madonna. Check out Chris Cornell's myspace page to hear the new theme tune, probably the weakest for a long, long time. This isn't worthy to be up there with the likes of Bassey, Tom Jones, Matt Munroe, Duran Duran and Tina Turner.

It is indeed. Q has been played by John Cleese in the more recent (pre-CR) films. Q simply wasn't in the book of CR, and so wasn't in the movie.

I thought the three main actors were very good especially Judi and Eva - still unsure about Daniel, although there were some moments of genious "that last hand nearly killed me" and "I've got an itch down there" but I just felt as though there was something missing.

Five things that were wrong with the film though ...

  1. No Q or a few gadgets
  2. No Moneypenny, instead we got some idiot whose attempt at pretending to be sick was laughable.
  3. Bland theme tune, I got remember how it goes now.
  4. Bland opening credits
  5. Lack of Bond Girls in opening credtis

That would have made it perfect for me but credit where drecit is due, the quarry fight and the airport fights were fantastic.

4 out of 5

Pierce Brosnan fans and, what's worse, orchestrated by Brosnan's PR machine. The poor guy thought he was born to play Bond and that the role was his for life and that the producers would pay whatever he asked to keep him on so he couldn't bear to be the first Bond to be shown the door.

IMO, Brosnan was the worst Bond ever. He brought nothing of himself to the role and failed at his attempts at Moore-like humour (he has no timing) and at his attempts at the harder side of the other BonRAB (you can't really play a cold blooded killer when you look like something out of a Young's Formal Hire catalogue).

They tried the same game with Daniel Craig being given the role as they had when Timothy Dalton was given the role in the mid-80s but the Bond people had learnt their lesson. Brosnan and his PR put it about that Dalton had only been given the role because Brosnan was unavailable. The Bond producers had been after Dalton since Connery's first departure but understandably at the time Dalton thought he was too young (he was 24). He was offered the role again and only at the third offer accepted it but had film and theatre commitments at the time. Brosnan was among those subsequently screentested but was tied to further series of Remington Steele so couldn't accept the role. In the meantime, Dalton had finished his film and theatre work and was able to start filming.

Even in 1995, Goldeneye was written with Dalton in mind and on his resignation, Brosnan was not the shoe-in he would have everyone believe. He had to audition again along with, among others, Clive Owen and James Purefoy (who were both auditioned again this time).

Craig is the best Bond since Dalton (the only other actor to play it as Fleming intended) who was the best Bond since Connery. Lazenby made a valiant attempt but just didn't have the acting skills. Moore turned it into a Carry On which was a shame as I think he would have been capable of so much more playing the role straight and Brosnan was just an unintentional joke.

Daniel Craig is the greatest Bond ever.

(In my opinion, face it, its about time there was a decent Bond film...they have been trying since 1964!)

anyone read the book?

For me its the best Bond book I have read, simple and unlike all the other Bond books. The only thing is that in the trailers they have added lots of explosions, stunts and probably gadgets that are not in the book.
I just hope that the 'hollywood' treatment on this book will not spoil it for me.

Thats not to say I am not going to see it because I am. However it may be a good James bond film, but will it be a good book to film adaptation.

I finally went to see it last night. Thught it was great but very overrated. I also think Daniel Craig was overrated aswell and I didn't really like the way he portrayed James Bond as a ruthless violent guy, he wasn't at all likeable. The action sequences were excellent and the opening title was pretty good, but the storyline was a bit weak. Also as someone pointed out, why wasn't the Bond theme tune played during the film?

This is the best Bond film I have seen and Daniel Craig is the best bond without doubt.

Oh and there IS a gunbarrel at the start of the movie, not sure why a few people have said there isnt

Was part of the Bond theme not played right after Daniel Craig said

"The name's Bond, James Bond" at the very end for the first time.

I took it that they never played the music till this point to emphasis the point that Daniel Craig is now Bond.
