Casino Royale

Just got back from seeing this and loved it. A much gritier bond, more realistic than before, but still in-keeping with the overall theme. Something from all the previous bond's in there, and in my opinion a wonderfull end to the film. If you are a bond fan you will be pleased and Daniel Craig played the part superbly. Very much looking forward to the next film.

I walked out the cinema with niggling doubts too. I really enjoyed the film but couldn't quite lay to rest the fact that it just wasn't the Bond we know. The main problem for me was the scene where Vesper gives him the DJ to wear. Bond is a suave, sophisticated man but this Bond was a bit too casual - as evidenced by the DJ scene.

However, since discussing this with frienRAB today, I have changed my mind, (I think). This film is about Bond learning to be Bond and things like his style will come.

I never had a problem with the brooding side of him - just small things like his casualness! However, great film and I will be back for more when it comes. :)

Well it may not be a prequel in the convention sense, but it is still officially classed as the 21st James Bond film. And I think that's where the confusion is going to set in.

And on your point of they will not remake any of the classic Bond films. I beg to differ on that one to be honest. It's quite likely that they will, because where else can they go after the first James Bond book if not looking towarRAB the others?

It may be the right thing to do in trying to create new life in the old worn out Bond franchise. But I'm afraid, I'm at the opinion that going down the route of the storyline in Casino Royale is likely to damage it.

Just watched it too - and I thought it rocked.

It was fabulous - and I think Daniel Craig absolutely nailed the character down.

I loved Judi Dench as 'M' (one of the few things the Brosnan Bond got right) and Eva Green does really well as Vesper.

Loved, loved, loved it.

9/10

Oh - and I'm sorry if this is very un PC of me, but when it comes out on DVD I'm certainly going to enjoy the two scenes where he's coming out of the water....wow!

He's made this girls night!

The best thing about the new james bond film was ... ... NO CGI ... ...

Don't get me wrong, theres nothing wrong with CGI, but tha last bond movie took it too far.

You might be right, some people may be confused as it is the 21st film. But the Bond films have always had a very loose and flexible sense of continuity anyway - If we were to accept that there is a direct continuing link between each film, then by that logic the character of Bond would be aged around 78 by now. You have to accept each story as it comes as a seperate entity - this is fiction, after all.

And I say again - They will NOT remake any of the old Bond films. They've filmed Casino Royale because its the only Fleming novel that was never filmed, and its a good chance to reboot the series with an origin story. After this they're going to continue with some of those plot elements and write new stories. Which I think is the best way forward.

Which explains why some of the dialogue in her early scences was delivered in a French accent. Bless.

Mind you, some of Pierce Brosnan's lines in the World is not Enough had his native Irish tones attached.

Saw it yesterday night, brilliant movie, and this is coming form someone who isnt even that big of a Bond fan.

The opening sequences were amazing, the freestyling was breathtakingly good. Craig makes for an interesting Bond, kinda breaking the mould a bit but for the better imo

As someone old enough to have lived through the entire James Bond series I thought this was the best, or at least one of the very best. It's very, very hard to recast - and they pulled that off yet again - but here they also reintroduced the character from scratch, with near total success.

Daniel Craig is superb casting, he lightly shook off all previous BonRAB invcluding Connery, he is a complex, dark, highly polished, thuggish killing machine and you believe it. He's an intelligent, literary actor - see the interview he did on BBC4 about the character in the original book. At last we have a Brit's idea of a Brit and not something plastic churned out for the mindless American market - even if largely made by Americans: good for them.

He's hugely helped by sound direction and an intelligent script. Of course it's a boys own fantasy but it's a logical plot with all its enRAB tied up, easy to follow about the financing of international terrorism, something that might, just, remotely, occur. I liked the longer dialogue scenes and the probing into characterisation of all the personalities, plus the low-key dry wit as opposed to the cartoon one liners which became tiresome after 4 years let alone 40. Ok, no one could survive the first five minutes let alone what happens to him, but that is the fantasy element. I did think of that poor Russian guy who was poisoned and died yesterday, creepily prescient or what?

Only the title song was shit. The music was not good enough, the theme was not well scored for a big movie, but leaving the use of the iconic theme until Craig had earned it was thrilling.

Yeah i must admit, the new james bond looks good
(im a bloke, so not in that way!)

But yeah, itll be on my list to see.

Cant wait to see all the fiiiiiiittttt lasses :p :p

Just seen it too and really enjoyed it.. Daniel craig was excellent in it... really enjoyed the near miss with plane and tanker and when the guy gets blown up lol... as well as torcher of Daniel Craig getting his balls slapped... reminded me of Fight club when he was just laughing away... :o

Daniel Craig was OK, except for me he is too old by about 10 years. The card game didn't work as well as I remember it did in the book; it just wasn't dramatic enough. Possibly because they changed the game to poker.[/QUOTE]

Well DC was born in 1968 so is 38, PB was 41 when he made his first Bond Film TD was 41, RM was 46, GL was 30 & SC was 32 so according to you none of the actors have been young enough

I watched this last night and didn't like it all. I missed all the escapism with fantastic stunts and funky gadgets. I also missed the humor and dare I say it the double entendres. The reinvigoration of the franchise has left us with a Bond and M who are as likeable as cold fishes. And finally if you will excuse me for having about the same depth as a puddle this Bond was the only one I didn't want to sleep with.

Daniel Craig is the best bond yet.
I saw Casino Royale last night and absoloutely loved it. I always knew Daniel Craig would deliver and was really looking forward to a grittier Bond film much more like the books, but this film was even better than I had imagined.

The pacing of the film was perfect as were the action scenes. I was ever-so-slightly disapointed in the poker scene as we didn't really see many hanRAB, but then this isn't a film about poker, it's about Bond. The story was great and stuck to the book quite closely, any changes were for the better.

I can't wait to see the nect film, but I don't know how they'll be able to match Casino Royale.
