Casino Royale

just read a really funny thing on another board - someone was asking if M was BonRAB mother as he called her mum (ma'am) some things do get lost in translation

Alternatively it could end up like the Timothy Dalton situation where they try something a bit new then go back to doing what they were doing before a la the overrated Goldeneye. I'm giving CR the benefit of the doubt though - at least there's no exploding base this time (I hope!).

I thort it was going to be an orlfull film with Daniel Craig in it "i don't like guns" and that hair
but after seeing it he's perfect as bond and id love more bond films with him.

:o Sorry - saw this last night and I think DC has as much character as a brussell sprout. I thought the film was over when he was tapping out his resignation to M and thought thank God we can go home - only it wasn't and all kicked off again! I thought the casino scene was really boring and went on too long and there was too much of a gap between the action scenes. As for the 'torture' scene - I'm not a bloke so do not know for sure but would he really have been able to 'carry on' after that sort of treatment?
It's a good job we're not all the same isn't it and I apologise for going against the grain here but just felt I had to express my opinion. Thanks.

Just seen it, and I have to admit I'm a little confused and even disappointed. It was enjoyable and everything but there was something about it that just wasn't 'Bond'.
No gunbarrell at the beginning, no Bond theme (until the very end), no Moneypenny or Q... the list goes on
Daniel Craig gets beaten up quite a bit in the film too, they really drive home the fact that this is supposed to be a more 'human' Bond. But I couldn't get over the fact that he looks more like a villain than James Bond! I won't spoil the rest of the film but I will say it is much better than the last few BonRAB, definately the best since the 80s anyway.

Just got back from seeing it. One word - Fantastic.

My personal favourite Bond film was You Only Live Twice, but tonight that has been pushed into the number two slot and Casino Royale has took its place.

Daniel Craig was fantastic. Also very glad they kept Judi Dench in the films. She and Daniel worked very well together.

Granny:

The Bourne films have nout to do with it.

Brosnan wanted to make CR as early as 1999 and pressured the film compnay to finally secure the rights.

Barbara Broccoli wanted to do CR after The World Is Not Enough but it took until I believe 2000 or 2001 just to get the rights to CR.

So had they had the rights CR would have been madea few years ago BEFORE the Bourne films(2002+)

Anyone else as excited as me?! I didn't think I would be, I'm not a huge James Bond fan, but the trailer looks really good and Mr. Craig is looking fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine! 13 days baby! (I think!) Bring it on! :D

Just attempting to watch the 1967 Casino Royale now. What an awful embarrassing mess. thank goodness the Bond people have finally got the rights back and made a proper film of Casini Royale. This David Nven/Peter Sellers version is quite simply awful. What on earth is it all about. None of it makes any sense. I am cringing watching it. I have always considered it an insult to the James Bond series and now they have finally made it properly it is even more embarrassing to watch. I noticed it has five directors. No wonder its all over the place. How did so many big name stars of the time agree to appear in this and How on earth this trash got made is beyond me but apparently it was a big hit and nearly outdid the proper Bond release of the time, You Only Live Twice. Anyway I think I will switch this tripe off and put on a proper Bond film instead!!

saw this last night and really enjoyed it.. could have been a bit better but still very well done

Bond is a spy and in this film he actually had to work as a spy which wasn't always the case.. seems like they haven't done a spy story for a while as some of the polot wasn't explained that well

tis is about seeing Bond becoming a 007 agent as as such he isn't perfect to start with which was very well done and you can see him grow into the 007 agent role

didn't like the fact that Vesper put on the fake British accent that the Americans think we have rather than a proper British accent and DC did the same thing a few times

also would a British Secret Service agent utter the worRAB "She left her cell phone behind" ?

Apart from that very well done seemed alot closer to what Fleming was trying to do with Bond

I haven't seen it all yet, but what I get from it, is that it's not a REAL bond film because he is not REALLY Bond, until the end. Some of Craig's acting is a little bad I thought. Like when he he awakes from his near death experience.

It isn't a prequel, in that is not set prior to Dr.No and all the other movies. It's a total reboot of the series, in the same way that Batman Begins showed you the origin of the character and had no relation to the previous 4 Batman films. I think I can guarantee that they will not remake any of the classic Bond films - They would be shot down in flames if they even suggested it. And the producers have said that they plan to continue the story in Casino Royale in the future movies.

So its best to think of this film as, essentially, an entirely new series, and not a continuation of any of the previous movies, or a prequel.

While she's great as M, it is a pity Judi Dench is still involved because it's the main confusing factor for the average cinema goer.

People don't tend to accept 'restarts' very well- many still think Batman Begins is a prequel. Of course The Dark Knight will change that, but if they don't remake the old Bond films it'll just get more confusing. Not that I want them remade either.... it would have been so much easier if they got an actor who was like the male Ms, and called it a prequel

Hello. How can you not have seen all of a film thats just been released. Infact dont answer that. You shouldnt be passing comment till you have watched it all.

You answered your own question in there somewhere. It is a Bond film. It just is not your typical Bond film as this Bond is showing us why Bond is the way he is.

And i totally disagree about Daniel Craig's acting. Not in one scene is he bad. He is a fantastic actor and i was not a a big fan till seeing him in Casino Royale.
