anyway back to OP, I think you do have to ignore the other Bond films and start from this point.

Basically we've started from scratch and this is a new character
 
I would agree . However,the REAL James Bond only shows up at the end.The rest of the film is Bond becoming Bond. I agree with the Judi Dench thing though. But I haven't had a chanceto watch it all yet.
 
I agree with you spot on.Anybody who isn't convinced that CR is a Bond movie yet should wait until Bond 22 comes out in November 22nd.Daniel Craig uttering the famous line right at the end only keeps us waiting for more.I don't think any of the original actors (Connery apart) really looked comfortable in the role until their second or third film.Daniel Craig has almost made it his own after one movie.Now we have an understanding of how his early relationships have formed his character it''ll be interesting to see how DC and the scriptwriters develop it-I for one can't wait.
 
Did you see Die Another Day? The moment the Aston turned invisible turned a very good Bond film (the torture, the sword fighting etc.) into the worst hour of Bond on film ever.

Luckily, more people are finding that they like this style of Bond more than the cartoony version that they've been peddling on and off since 1970.

And saying that the writers hadn't seen a Bond film, they'd actually written the last couple so it's not like they didn't know what they were doing.
