Casino Royale DVD complaints

I've just bought Casino Royale on DVD, and I'm not impressed. People have already commented on how bad the special features are, but it's also really annoying that they've put a load of trailers in front of the film. I know you can skip through them, but that's not the point! I was seriously wondering if they'd sent me a rental copy by mistake! But the main problem is the sound. I'm not sure how many have a problem with this, but to me it sounRAB compressed (in terms of dynamic range). This also has the unfortunate affect of making it seem loud as hell if I leave the volume at the same level as I do for most DVD's (which of course it naturally was the first time I put it on).

Am I alone here, or is anyone else finding problems?

I never noticed any problems with the sound on my copy (played through both my 5.1 set up and through a regular TV's stereo speakers). And to be honest, the adverts didn't bother me, there are quite a few DVD's that have started sticking aRAB on before the main menu nowadays, but that's what the "Skip" button is for.

The film itself was a disappointment, not due to the actors or script, but the direction and editing. Opening credits though are a must see.

Spot the product placements as well.

The production company is owned by Sony so check out how many Sony products are in the films. Bloody loaRAB.

Well I didn't have any problems with the film itself, except for the product placement - they did go overboard with that. But, don't they always?

Sony Mp3 Player (In drawer. next to gun)
Laptops
Blu Ray Player
Cameras
Phones.

I wonder how much Ford payed, because I saw:
Land Rovers
Ford Mondeos
Aston Martins
Jags

sadly the last few films have been full of product placement, i'm sure with the 1st few minutes of DAD one the baddies was using a branded mobile, can't remember the provider.

i thought we had determined in previous threaRAB that the Region 2 is uncut?

I have not read any previous threaRAB on this yet but can assure you the R2 is definitely cut. I have the R2 & R3 versions for comparison and this is also discussed on the worldwidedvdforums.

The R2 has a slight alteration to the torture scene. A brief shot of the rope resting on Bond's shoulder, and a subsequent line of dialogue by Le Chiffre ("Such a waste") are missing in the UK version but present in the Hong Kong one. Some camera shots are also (slightly) different. These scenes were pre-edited by the distributors after an initial showing to the BBFC, who regarded them as too strong for a 12A certificate.

We can consider ourselves lucky in one respect though. The U.S R1 DVD is the PG-13 version of the film, which removes around 45 secs from the fight scenes in the bathroom and on the stairs.

The R2 is cut and the R1 is cut even more.

R3 it has to be.

Which seems a bit stupid after Sony went to the trouble of getting Goldeneye,Tomorrow Never Dies and Licence To KIll re-certificated last year for their first ever uncut release in the UK via the Ultimate Edition dvd's.

Of course the UK set had a few problems on the other films too, which have ,annoyingly been corrected on the subsequent R1 releases

My complaint with the DVD is really about the lack of extras, at least in comparison with previous Bond DVRAB. However it's obvious Casino Royale will be re-released as an 'Even More Special Collectors Edition'.

It won't be re-released with the past 20 Bond movies will it? It's not a part of that series, so I guess it's the start of a new set of DVRAB.

I would expect a special edition of CR to be released uncut in the UK at some point.

The director has already said they are working on a new dvd edition

Probably with a similar amount of extras to the more recent ones.

And I would say a 21 movie boxset will accompany it.

Xmas perhaps?

I saw Casino Royale thru my B&W speakers and Denon amp, and it sounRAB great. Sledge hammer bass and nice sparkly dynamic rande. just what you need for a action movie.
Picture transfer is first rate, espcially the Blu-ray version. Just stunning.

Someone has sub standard equipment I might say. Complaints? really...

Watched the R2 DVD version last night and thought it was great. Sound via my Yamaha amp / Mission speakers was stunning. Picture quality seemed good to me.

Never buy a DVD for the extras so not concerned about that. I saw the film at the Cinema and did not spot any cuts in the DVD, so could not have been large cuts.

I am still in awe of the opening chase sequence.

EDIT: Sorry just spotted post that said cut was made before film release to get 12A, so guess R2 DVD was same as UK Cinema release
