Casino Royale - Bond 21

They have already said Q is not in this one. I think Clive Owen would make a good Bond. The early reports suggest that they want to back to a story, dialogue led film with not so much of the special effects that have ruined some of the later BonRAB.
I suspect that the story will be 'loosely' based on Casino Royale.

Connery set the standard and I don't think anyone has surpassed him yet..

Owen is such an obvious choice - its a bit boring really I'd rather someone like Rufus Sewell who looks more ruff and ready and is a better actor than Owen. Did noone see Owen in Arthur - god awful.

Sewell has an air of danger about but agree they will pick Owen as Studio's lack imagination.

Who would have picked Mat Damon for the Bourne Identity - but it works. Damon is a fine actor e.g Talented Mr Ripley and thats what Bond neeRAB. Owen is too lightweight.

There are two ways they can do this film;

A: A true 'Bond Beginnings' film which goes back to the start of his career as a 00 Agent. In which case it neeRAB to be set in the 50s/60s with Cold War parinoia etc.

B: Confrim the - each actor is actually a new 007 theory (the one I hold true) and have his first mission thus Judy Dench could feasibly be part of the project.

Part of me would love to see a nostalgic 60s set Bond, the producers could then ditch any 'PC' worries and have the true womanising, heavy smoking lone wolf that the books portray.

I agree that Connary is by far the best screen Bond. The Brosnan films especially DAD were just sanatised action flicks. However it has to be said that Dalton was actually the actor than managed to give the perfomrance that best captures Fleming's portrayal of Bond.

If there's no Q then there's no fil mas far as I'm concerned. That would just be a silly mistake. To be honest the whole film (especially the sacking of Brosnan) is a mistake.

According to self styled internet movie guru Harry Knowles, EON have it down to two potential candidates. Julian McMahon from Nip/Tuck & the forthcoming Fantastic Four movie and Daniel Craig, from Layer Cake. My money is on Daniel Craig. He's British and an act up a storm. Not so sure about the whole "let's study Bond's origins and early years" approach though. It seems that just when the series was getting back onto its feet and getting audiences in, the studio and producers want to make it all hip and happening. Look at the ice surfing sequence in Die Another Day for a good example, trying to jazz it all up just takes away the flavour. Bond should always be set piece, stunt based action, huge sets exploding into balls of flame and some decent skirt to look at...

I have to make a comment here,as a lifelong Bond fan......I really enjoyed Die Another Day even with the bad CGI when Bond was surfing the melted ice mountain and it did fantastic box office,......all this talk of less action and more character dialogue has all been done before........the George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton films tried this and the box office results were dissapointing.....the first 2 Connery films were good but they were dwarfed at the box office by gadget driven Goldfinger and the bigger Moore films did better business than the lower key ones.
It is show BUSINESS..... and critical success means very little in the film world...........I'd love to see Clive Owen start with a massive action film with a ton of womanising and awesome stunts!!!!!!

Is Clive Owen definitely Bond. And as Judi Dench has signed up for the film it looks as if when they said they were going back to the beginning they meant in style and not in time.

I'm very very glad that John Cleese isn't in the new film. I don't rate him at all as an actor, in any role, (or as a comedian for that matter), and personally I thought he ruined The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day. They should have left the gadget introduction bits out when Desmond Llewellyn died, or at least found a capable actor, not some has-been who'll take any role that comes his way.

They should get Pierce to do one more as Bond. I rate Brosnan and Connery as a tie in the best Bond ever category and I think MGM were stupid to lose him.

As the new films going to be Casino Royale, I'm sure we can all guess what'g going to happen during the opening credits... Casino chips flying everywhere, while scantily clad women rub them around their bodies wearing mock crows and holding sceptres...!
