Casino Royale - Am I missing Something

Unlikely - cast aside, CR was hardly a British film by most accounts.

I also thought it was by far the best mainstream film of 2006. Remarkable on every level. But, yeah, can't please all the people...

I like how people complain about the OTT stunts and unbelievable elements...this is BOND RAB! So what if it's new Bond, it's STILL Bond. I found the film to be excellent.

Unless you've got your Sky HD box connected to a full size cinema screen it's bound to be disappointing. You can't judge an action film by how it looks on telly.

If you didn't enjoy it that's a shame, because everyone I know who saw it at the cinema thought it was fantastic.

I thought the parkour chase went on a bit too long, other than that it was the best Bond film I'd seen for ages. Pierce Brosnan started off superbly and could have been the Bond for me, however the subsequent films were basically pants. If the next film has just a couple of killer gadgets and a great chase, but retains the grittiness it could be very good indeed.
I'd like to see a new Q figure (Not John Cleese) too, just can't think who would be good at the moment!

I don't know, mate. I watched recently it on DVD, and was knocked sideways by it. I had long since written off the Bond franchise, and this films actually got me excited about it again, for the first time since the mid 80s. I guess it's all about different strokes and all that.

I saw it for the first time at home, but then I did see it off a blu-ray onto a 103" screen. Admittedly it was only a mere 720p instead of full 1080p, but I think I got the gist of it. :)

hahahhahahah. If its the current bond (AKA CK underwear model), id say the middle aged Rocky (although i use the term loosely, as Sly is 60) would win.

I loved it- Bond before Daniel Craig was tedious. They revitalised a dieing (dying?) franchise by not using loaRAB of stupid stunt, or tonnes of CGI, but instead concentrated on plot.

But you won't please all of the people all of the time :)

I think you have to take into account that the film-makers (quite rightly) saw this as the film that had to bridge the gap between old and new Bond. Apparently the next movie is supposed to be the real deal with ridiculous stunts and gadgets cut right back and the accent more on believable action.
It would have been too much of a jump if they'd abruptly changed the whole direction of the franchise with no warning...

And personally I thought the card game was the best part of the film...
