Casino Royale (2006): 4.5/5

Still an awesome film  Daniel Craig is excellent as a rough-and-ready Bond. Maybe 2.5 hours is a bit long for an action film but really the action scenes are great, I also loved some of the throwaway lines and humour

eg the itchy balls gag during the torture scene :D
and the time when Bond first orders a complex drink and Le Chiffre is like "OK does anyone want to play poker?! :D
I also loved the growing tenderness between Bond and Vesper.. that scene where he comforts her in the shower (still in his suit).
And it shows how Bond is learning, becoming the unbeatable secret agent.

He does that scene opposite in Quantum of Solace when he is holding Olga's character while the fire burns around them, was a nice touch.

Apart from QoS this is the worst Bond film ever.
Fatally flawed with Craig in the role - so wooden he makes my bookcase look more charismatic.

His departure will be the one benefit of the enforced hiatus

I have seen Quantum but it's been a while :) I'm in a group reading a version of the Casino Royale book, so I thought it'd be cool to see the movie again.

I don't really have one although I would go for Connery if pushed.

OHMSS is the best Bond film but other highlights are Goldfinger ,Spy Who Loved Me , Goldeneye and Living Daylights.

If only we could get the last few on Bluray

But can't stand Craig.
He has no onscreen presence nor any charisma - none in real life either if his chat show appearances are anything to go by.

Casino Royale was a great Bond Film, but it wasn't a Bond film in the sense that I'd grown accustomed too. I'm living in the past, in the familiarity of the 20 previous Bond films.

This was a total reboot. I enjoyed what I saw and appreciated the excellent film for what it was. The Bahamas Chase sequence was outstanding, but I was sad to see so many elements from previous films that just weren't there.

Well there have only been 3 or 4 really decent Bond films since the '60s and Casino Royale is definitely one of them (The Living Daylights and Goldeneye being 2 others). I thought it was brilliant in just about every way. It showed Bond could be modernised as well as staying true to the character and setup. Bond is maybe even more Bond-like in Casino Royale than in 90% of the past entries. To me Daniel Craig was James Bond in CR. Roger Moore always felt like Roger Moore trying to be Bond.

enjoyed this as it seemed more of a spy film to all the others.

Not sure why they met half why through the train journey though, why not meet at the station ?

QoS was a let down as it started with a girl about to shoot someone and at the end she did. After getting it right with CR they then went against the reboot with the second film

QoS was made even worse by a halfwit editor who thought making scenes incomprehensible made them look cool.

That car chase could have been so good instead of total shit

Casino Royale started a change of the franchise that i'm not too fond with.

If i wanted to watch a Bourne film - i'll go watch one.

Gadgets, campness and Bondisms is what i've come to expect.

Granted Die Another Day was absolute gash (even worse than QoS IMO) but i feel they've changed it too much.

Originally Bond didnt have gadgets and camp though, I liked seeing Craig rough around the edges which brings something different, not saying I dont like the classic BonRAB like Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, Live and Let Die etc, can't beat them :)
You're right though maybe Bourne owes something to the style of this reboot.

Shame we're never really introduced to anyone in QoS so we don't CARE who Bond is beating up as much, I enjoyed QoS but it felt like I was watching a video game

I felt similarly toward CR.
It was just so much like any other action film.

After Licence to Kill there was a 6 year hiatus where it was talked about that Bond was old hat , not needed and had already been taken over by the other action films that proliferated in the early 90's and then Goldeneye appeared and Bond was back.

The 2 Craig films don't feature an awful lot to separate them from the rest of cinema action so I'm hoping that the required reboot in a year or three will kick start the series again

CR was a brilliant relauch for the Bond series. I loved Craig's Bond.

Then came QoS, which was one of the shittiest movies I've sat through. SUCH a disappointment!

I dont think it neeRAB another reboot though, CR was the reboot. QoS would have been better with a better director who knew how to film stuff and edit fights properly.
I enjoyed it though :p :)
Goldeneye was great and Pierce was a great Bond also.
