Cartoons you probably would have liked, if they were around when you were younger

What are some shows that you think that you would have liked, had they been around earlier in your life? For me:

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: I really think I would have liked this show if it was around when I was four. I really liked the Disney characters back then, so this show would have been right up my alley.

Super Duper Sumos: I really don't know how to describe it, but this really feels like a show I would have liked when I was seven or eight.

DuckTales - I was 18 in 1987 when this series premiered, but I imagine that I would have enjoyed this series if it had been around when I was in elementary school. Speaking of Disney, there's also...

Goof Troop - I'm sure that I would have enjoyed this series when I was a kid, because I was a huge Goofy fan.

Maybe Skunk Fu and Johnny Test, both shows I can sit through if I need to but I wouldn't say i'm a fan of either show. I think if I was 8 or 9 I would really like Johnny Test, he has a look and an attitude that you would really dig if you were a young kid. Skunk Fu I would most likely find funny if I was still in single digits, but as it stands today I don't care for either show that much.

I agree Johhny Test & Skunk Fu would have been alot more enjoyable to me if thay had come out about a decade ago, as for Chowder & Flapjack I probably would have enjoyed those more if they had just come out about 3-5 years earlier then they did.

another toon I can name is 6teen If it had been on back when I was a kid & watched alot of sitcoms like Freshprince, Irkle, Home Improvment, Etc. I would Probably have enjoyed it more.

The last show I can think of is Dinosaur king, If it had been around in the late 90's instead of pokemon I would have been all over it, heck Dinosaurs & godzilla movies were my favriote things (Besides sonic) between the ages of 3-10.:p:sweat::evil:

Ben 10/Alien Force: This show would have awesome, and totally in the vein of TMNT and Power Rangers if it'd been around in the late 80's/early 90's.

Dinosaur King is definatly one of those shows for me too, if I was 10 I would probably sit down and watch this show glued to the tv, but not at 19 unfortunatly.

Probably Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, since I love Mickey and his friends, and loved watching their short cartoons when I was a kid (one of the great things about having the Disney Channel at the time)...

Spongebob Squarepants....I've never been too fond of the series (I find it more stupid than actually funny),but had I seen it as a kid,I probably would've at least liked it...

Kid vs Kat - Back when O was young this probably would have appealed to me but not now. I can't stand episodes where the main character(s) get blamed for what another character does like in Foster's Home episode "Everyone Knows It's Bendy". So you can imagine that I'd hate an entire series based around something like that.

When I was a kid or even a young teen, I probably would've been into Disney's House of Mouse, since I was very into Disney cartoons back then (Ducktales, Goof Troop, etc.).

I can say with certainty I would NOT have liked Spongebob. I didn't like stuff like Ren & Stimpy, so...

^ I grew up with SB.

But anyway, I don't think I would like any show more or less then I do now. My tastes do change, but not that often. I like almost all forms of humor and animation, what I am learning is that balance and moderation is a key factor. I may prefer something to the other, but I don't like the classic Spongebob anymore or less then I use to. Some shows I understand more then when I was a kid (I analyize and think more abstractly) but the charm of a good animated show isn't lost on me either. ;)

The "Super Cool" Uncle who doesn't play by the rules.

The Never Say Die Attitude.

The Fire Sword that because of the Never Say Die Attitude, doesn't really burn anything: It more like causes explosions.

I saw only 5 episodes, so I can't really give more examples.

OK, I'll give you that one.

So you'd rather have them take a defeatist attitude and have the bad guys walk all over them and have the citizens they save fall into peril?

I don't understand what you mean by this. The characters' collective 'never say die' attitude prevents Drew's fire sword from burning anything? What does that even mean? And how is this a cliche?

I would suggest that you watch a few more episodes before passing judgment on The Secret Saturdays. It's actually a pretty good show, at least I think so.

To be honest I probably wouldn't like The Secret Saturdays as much if I was a young kid, Doc and Drew are kind of adult savy and the look and animation make the series look vintage. If I was still 8 or 9 I would most likely be watching colorful looking cartoons or cartoons with kids humor, but to me The Secret Saturdays is one of the best shows going today.

Perfectly fine if you don't like the show, but those cliches you listed don't really bother me. TSS breaks a lot of the big cliches I find aggravating in cartoons: intelligent and cool adult characters, a decent kid who isn't overpowered and doesn't obnoxiously upstage his parents, a devilishly competent villain who repeatedly defeats the heroes (though I'm sure he'll get his big commeupance in the season finale), solid continuity from episode-to-episode, a "best friendship" between a kid and his cute non-human companion that is actually a genuine friendship (instead of an antagonistic rivarly with excessive name-calling and meanspirited behavior), a show creator who actually listens and responds to fan feedback, etc etc.

Back to the thread, I think I'd love Chowder(rather than mildly like it) if it came out during my elementary school years. I see too much of my younger self in the titular character (please don't ask how or why)...

My thoughts exactly.

I kinda agree. My tastes have changed somewhat, but not completely. Shows I like now I would have liked back then. Show I hate now I probably would have hated back then as well.

Another thing people need to consider is that there's cartoons you like now that you would have liked more as a kid. Why? Cause as a kid, cartoons and children's television in general, is what you mostly watch. When you're a teen or adult there's other things you get interested in and there's only so much time that you can devote to a show. You know what I mean? For example, I like Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. But I was a senior in High School when it premiered in 2004. There was other distractions. Yet if I were 7 years old I would have been obsessed with it.

When I said "Never Say Die Attitude" I meant how the show was written, not the characters, just as the link would show you.

In a series that are into a "Never Say Die," enemies are limited to what they can actually do, since they can't hurt the main characters. Words like "Die" and "Kill" are rarely used, and there isn't really a sense of danger for anybody. Weapons like the Fire Sword get the worst of it though, as they can blow up walls, or kick up dirt, but if they actually hit somebody, it becomes a concussive blast that leaves the victim dazed but uninjured.

The Secret Saturdays is a good cartoon, but it doesn't project itself outside the box that much when it comes to things like these.
