Cartoons You Only Saw Cause of a Sibling

Nope. I was born in 1990 so the show was pretty much gone from the airwaves when I started watching cartoons on TV.

But anyway, can we include films in this thread? If I recall correctly, I watched my first Miyazaki film (Spirited Away) because of my sister.

I don?t see what there is to explain. Everybody has different tastes. Just because an animated program is popular doesn?t mean that every child who lived during that time cared about it. That?s the reason there are multiple networks and multiple animated programs to choose from; if everybody liked the same thing, there wouldn?t be that much competition. Pok?mon wouldn?t have had to compete with Digimon and Monster Rancher. Yu-Gi-Oh! wouldn?t have to compete with Chaotic and the other shows of its ilk. Children don?t always like the same thing.

If someone said My Little Pony there would be no need for an explanation. But if someone says TMNT, a show popular with OUR demographic then an explanation is needed. And whether they liked the show or not is irrelevant. If it is a show that's targeted to our demographic then there's a strong chance you'll check it out. Especially if there's a huge amount of hype around it. You'd be curious and wonder what's it all about. Especially since it's a show targeted to the demographic.

The question isn't cartoons you liked because of a sibling. It's cartoons you saw because of a sibling. If you're using a popular show for our demographic as an example you should give an explanation.

Just because an animated program is popular doesn?t mean that everybody has watched it. I could list dozens of animated programs that have received immense praise that I?ve never watched a single episode of. I understand where you?re coming from, but you?re more-or-less telling people that they have to explain themselves in order for their personal experiences to be valid. You asked a question and people replied, yet you didn?t believe them and you thought that they misunderstood the question. You wanted to know which animated programs people would have never watched if it weren?t for their sibling; any answer that meets that criteria would therein be valid regardless of the demographic popularity. I know that you like TMNT, but not everybody does. Nobody should have to explain themselves just because they never would have watched it on their own.

Regardless, I?ve rambled on long enough. We?ll just have to agree to disagree.

I never would have watched ?Dragonball Z? or ?Sailor Moon? on my own. Back when I was younger, I wasn?t too fond of anime; I didn?t hate it, but it was just too different from the typical fare that I was used to. However, my sister was really into anime at the time and I began watching them because she was watching them, and over time, I gradually began to like them. It changed my perspective on anime for the better.

I completely agree with you. While a show is popular, that doesn't mean that every single person watches it and enjoys it. I personally never watched much of the 80s TMNT series. Of course, it was already gone off the air by the time I was able to watch TV.

Well, the only cartoon series I started watching because of my big brother was Pokemon. I remember watching some episodes with him when it use to be on UPN. In fact, I still remember watching my first Pokemon episode, Pikachu's Goodbye, with him in his room. I was actually afraid to get into the series since I thought that would make him mad. We love each other and all but back then, he was going through the whole not liking to share with little sister phase thing. That was a long phase. Of course, I was also getting more interested in the games back then too, so that made me more interested in the series as well.
