Cartoons You Love That Everyone Else Hates

Freak Show had me hooked since episode one. It was just so delightfully absurd. And the dialogue often had me in stitches.

"It's not a threat, it's a thromise!"
"What? You threaten to promise me?"

Atomic Betty - It was well animated for a flash cartoon and was pretty good when you look past the cliches.

Captain Flamingo - I'll admit the idea was pretty absurd, but the show slowly grew on me.

Ren and Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon

I just convinced my mom to smuggle the DVD set past my overprotective father...and it was AWESOME. Granted, Altruists got a bit stale around the end, but that's normal for a 44 slapstick cartoon [slapstick as in humor that's not character based]. The Ralph Bakshi-inspired Fire Chief was hilarious. I don't know if it's cheating or not to come up with a hilarious cartoon character by ripping his personality from a real person...but The Fire Chief was AWESOME! A Firedogs 3 would've been awesome. My favorite episode would probably be Stimpy's Pregnant, though.

I just have one burning question, however.

WHY WAS SUCH AN AWESOME SHOW CANCELED?

I think it's because people are shocked by how...different the show is in this incarnation. But once you get passed the small doses of sex and violence, it's a very funny show. In fact, I'm not even completely sure how APC is so "grotesque". It's not that much worse than Family Guy in that aspect.

I've only seen one episode (the one with the bat-otter) and I'm hooked. Bat-otter is just an amazingly awesome idea.

I really liked The Brothers Flub in the tiny spit of time that it was on Nickelodeon. Out of the small number of people I found who even remembered it, not one had anything nice to say. It didn't even have an article on Wikipedia for so long because people were making joke articles that bashed the show.

Agreed on Mike Lu and Og too. Majorly underrated.

What's with everyone listing Angry Beavers? I haven't heard anyone say anything even remotely bad about it, ever. (And I agree; it was certainly one of Nick's best.)

How well-received was Family Dog? I remember renting tapes of it at the supermarket about 15 years ago when they still had video rental, and I thought it was above-average.

Bo-bobo-bo-bobobo was awesome. Crazy fun!

I must be the only person on Earth (or at least this forum) that enjoyed Coconut Fred's Fruit Salad Island. Sure, it's not groundbreaking, but it didn't need to be. Sure, the characters were annoying at times, but that's what made them endearing to me. It was just goofy fun, something which I thought was lacking in cartoons at the time. I know I liked it more than Johnny Test, which started around the same time.

And Mucha Lucha was also cool. I just like Mexican wrestling, and when the show ended, I felt a gaping hole in my heart, which was quickly filled by El Tigre, thank goodness.

And I don't think people hate this show, but I thought Sheep In the Big City was hilarious. Like a modern-day Rocky & Bullwinkle. But no one seems to remember this show. Or if they did, they thought it was the stupidest thing they ever saw.

I know he's not here, but this is getting answered anyway...

Because the show was going over budget and John K wasn't handing in work on time. The same reason he was taken off of the Nick version of the show.

Well, it actually has more to do with the fact that the advertisers were uncomfortable with the show's content, and the network was reluctant to air "Naked Beach Frenzy" after that Janet Jackson controversy.

I liked both the '99 Avengers cartoon (yes, the one with the armor) and Spider-Man Unlimited. I though Spider-Man Unlimited was cool in that it took a whole bunch of stuff from different Marvel comics and brought it together in one show.

Agreed.People have came up to me and called this show sick and nasty. And those biology arguments "How can human parents have cow and chicken for children".
Well the theme song goes:"Mama had a chicken, mama had a cow,Dad was proud HE DIDN?T CARE HOW."
It is very amusing when people dismiss a well written, fun cartoon for not living up to the laws of science :D

"Capitol Critters" for me. Its social commentary was mostly limited to the strife between the mice/rats and the roaches, and they did go too heavy on the chase scenes, but I found the main cast extremely likable.

I agree with Mike, Lu, and Og. I loved that show when I watched it, (I still like it, too, but not as much) Almost everyone I talk to dislikes it. :/

One show that I have noticed that many people hate that I love is 6teen and Stoked. I've noticed in the Cartoon Network Cartoon Forum that only a few people post in an episode talkback thread and when 6teen and Stoked returned to the lineup, there was a lot of people that were like "This news sucks" or "Glad Camp Lazlo is returning, could care less about 6teen and Stoked". I see more negative than positive things said about 6teen and Stoked. I really like 6teen and Stoked. My two favorite parts of 6teen and Stoked are the character/background design and the writing. Those two are my favorite Cartoon Network shows of all time.

First of all (and I don't want/mean to sound like a smartass) 6teen and Stoked were not developed by Cartoon Network: they were developed by Fresh tv and Teletoon.
Second, I agree there has been quite a bit of 6teen/Stoked hate in the Cartoon Network forum. Personally I think that people are still complaining about the fact that they are Canadian programs, and not Cartoon Network original series, as well as the fact that the shows produced by Fresh have proved to be surprisingly successful. Note this is just what I think, I'm pretty sure that not everyone feels this way.

And third: I too love 6teen and Stoked no matter how much the Cartoon Network forum complains. :p

Yeah, people who get pedantic about the science at work in movies annoy me too. Suspend your belief for a little bit.

As for the thread topic, I'm one of the few people I know who thinks that American Dragon: Jake Long and Brandy & Mr. Whiskers weren't completely horrible - I only think they were partially horrible.:p Seriously, neither of them were very good, but they both had decent moments and were hardly the abortions they get made out as. I think a lot of the flack they get comes from people jumping on the Disney Channel hate-wagon.

And I don't hate any of 4Kids anime dubs, either. I hate 4Kids, and I hate that they got the shows, instead of a better company, and I hate that they felt the need to inexcusably butcher the original content, but taken on their own terms the shows are passable kid entertainment - I know I'm not the only one who got introduced to anime through their versions of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. They're not something I'd watch now - I'd much rather track down an uncut version, or even a fansub - but I can't bring myself to condemn them.

One cartoon I like that people seem to hate is Super Duper Sumos. While it definitely isn't the greatest cartoon ever, I still think that it's an enjoyable show.

Another series that I like, but a lot of other people don't, would have to be Wedding Peach. Most people who have heard of this series think that it's a Sailor Moon rip-off that sucks. While both shows are very similar, I actually think that Wedding Peach took some elements from Sailor Moon, and made some improvements on them, like Wedding Peach tends to be a better heroine than Sailor Moon (From the clips I've seen, Sailor Moon tends to be a wuss at times, when fighting villains).

What's New Scooby-Doo. Well I can't say I've seen much backlash against the series but when I do I'm speechless. Scooby and the gang made a flawless transition from the 60's/70's into a new generation. Normally when someone tries to update something old, it turns out bad but this was so smooth and flawless. It's second only to the original, IMO of course.

Same here. 6teen and Stoked are so good and I just can't see why some people won't give them a chance. IMO Canada has some of the best TV programs (live-action and animated) ever. But that's going a bit off topic, sorry.

I like WNSD as well. While I don't think it's the second best in the series, they did a good job with it. About the only complaint one could really make is that Frank Welker's Scooby pales in comparison to Don Messick's or even Scott Innes'. But otherwise it was a good show. Loved the theme song!!
