Cartoons You Dislike and Why

I'm sure a thread like this has already been done, but I havent seen any topics like this listed on the forum.

Post what you think are some of the worst cartoons on tv.

The Wild Thornberries
I will give Klasky Csupo credit for trying to create something original,
but the Wild Thornberries is way too boring, with some completely annoying characters, such as the star, Eliza Thornberry, who almost sounds like one of the Chipettes from Alvin and the Chipmunks. The character designs are horrific, (but I recall reading in an interview once that Klasky Csupo intentionally makes ugly characters to make it more cartoony and silly. I cant remember where I read it though. so if the character designs were intentional, then job well done, Klasky-Csupo.) Donnie is an interesting character, i'll give the show that. Otherwise, this is a pretty lame show,
I dont understand why Nick made a movie of it. I remember Nick used to have a real boner for anything Csupo-created, which led to many Csupo shows clogging up Nick's schedule. I'm glad that phase is over.

Danny Phantom
I remember reading on Room With a Moose forums that Danny Phantom was going to be the next big goth show, possibly being just as entertaining and well-written as Invader Zim. The day finally came when it premiered. The 'ghost rap' theme song pretty much tells the viewer how much quality this series would have. This show didnt really push the envolope for what nick will allow on their network, like Zim and Ren & Stimpy did. the villains were stupid and never really posed any threat to the hero Danny, their powers could never really put any of the characters lives into danger (I recall one of the villains was a Lunch Lady who tossed meat around) There were some clever references to horror films scattered throughout the episodes, and there were some very brief 'cool moments' that confuse the viewer to thinking that this might actually be a decent show for a minute or two, before some really terrible writing or plot element kicks in, reminding the viewer this is a pretty awful show. Like the Wild Thornberries, the star of this show is one of the most annoying characters. I seem to only recall enjoying one episode of the show, where Danny was sucked into a haunted locker and turned into a nerdy-kid from the 50's. Danny's goth-friend Sam was the only likable character on this otherwise mess of a show.

South Park
I know a lot of people are going to hate me for listing this, but this show really bugs the heck out of me. The humor is so black and mean-spirited that you cant feel anything for the characters, not to mentiion the animation is some of the worst seen in a cartoon. It had some funny moments now and then, but it's overall a poorly-crafted, mean-spriited, almost depressing to watch show.

American Dad
I could only stand a few episodes of this show back when it first premiered. I stopped watching after a while becuase the characters got so irritating, and the storylines incredibly dull and mundane. It's basically the exact same show as Family Guy, only with a Secret-Agent theme.

Foster's Home for Imaginary friends
Again, another taboo listing, and i'm sure many people are going to hate me for listing it. I wanted to like this show, I really did. I like McCracken's work, and I heard nothing but good things about this show. I found the animation to be very creative, something a show about Imaginary Friends definitely needs. But the thing is, it's kinda boring. Nothing interesting really happens on this show, and the characters, Bloo and Frankie especially, have some bad voicework and get really irritating after awhile.
 
LLOYD IN SPACE. Generic characters with bland character design, Predictable stories, Forced morals, I still can't believe this was made by the same guys that made the awesome "Recess". :sad:
 
:sweat: - Worst toons in history? The list would be too long. My list will be a few current or recent ones that I think are of poor quality.

Chop Socky Chooks - Someone went through a lot of trouble and expense to put this on the air...but its the worst tripe to hit CN in recent years. Someone somewhere thought the mix of martial arts and chickens would go over but its a horrible and embarrassing fail.

Transformers Animated - I was excited for this show when it was announced, unfortunately it too failed to meet expectations in a big way.

Out of Jimmy's Head - Tsk, Tsk...out of curiosity, I looked at this show once and was unimpressed. If I were a teenager, my intelligence would still be offended by this show.

South Park - Was never a fan...and I don't understand its popularity to this day. A bunch of foul mouthed political/social satire aimed @ the youth of today that still causes a feeding frenzy whenever it airs. In truth, it was funny for about one second...after that, it became tiresome real quick.:shrug:

Foster's Home for Imaginary friends - I'm on CjFilmz bandwagon for the last couple of choices...this toon also fails to inspire...I'm sorry but not even Bloo can carry the weight of this show all by himself. The little blue Pac-Man ghost or whatever he's supposed to be is somewhat funny, but the rest is like a cheap Seinfeld cartoon...a show about absolutely NOTHING.
 
Freak Show - This show about a group of circus freaks should have been funny. It had David Cross voicing a character for cryin' out loud. But this was one of THE worst written cartoons ever. I hope Comedy Central's pulled the plug for good on it.

Li'l Bush - There isn't one original joke in this show. You know what an idiot Bush is. I know what an idiot Bush is. This show just regurgitates anything and everything we already know (and hate) about the man who's singlehandely destroyed this country in just eight years.

My Little Pony Tales - The original 80's show was actually, for a show aimed at little girls, pretty tolerable. It had action oriented stories, fun characters, and once in a while, a catchy tune. MLPT however, was just a generic, poorly concieved, 'Let's talk down to our audience' disaster.

The New Adventures of He-Man - Ugh. He-Man in Space, with a total overhaul, taking away anything and everything that made the original show so much fun.
 
I'm probably gonna be kicked for this but:

Any Filmation cartoon of the 80s. He-Man, Bravestarr (sp?), She-Ra (that was 80s right?) etc. "
Stiff animation (I've seen mid-70s Scooby-Doo/Scrappy episodes with more life then this), poor writing (what do you expect from a 30 minute toy commercial?), stupid annoying sidekicks placed for "comedy" relief (you know they HAVE to all laugh at it doing something stupid at the end! That's a rule!), morals tacked on at the end etc.

Most Hanna-Barbara cartoons after 1969. (although Filmation makes these look like The Incredibles)

I have great respect for both of these studios as they were major employment options in the 1970s/1980s for animators but most of the products they churned out... were junk. And the people working on them knew it and made the best of it.
 
These "worst cartoons ever" threads always evolve into "my least favorite cartoons" threads (and this one did right from the get-go, I might add). I don't put much stock in them, since they're always swayed by personal opinion. If you really want to know what the worst cartoons ever made are, Jerry Beck has a DVD full of them.
 
At first glance, one would think that, but really, American Dad and Family Guy are actually very different from each other. MacFarlane's humor and characters aren't for everybody, but AD at least offers cohesive stories and consistent plots without resorting to breaking the action every minute for some random pop-culture reference or a character saying "Like the time I/you/so-and-so character did *insert improbable situation here* then cut to long drawn-out cutaway of said improbable situation.



I agree with this. Lloyd was a terrible waste of a potentially interesting idea. The only character on that show that I liked was Francine. The idea of a bratty little sister with amazing psychic powers is just so wonderfully weird, like if one of the Children of the Corn took up residence in your house.
 
Agreed. It's not really a discussion, more a thread for people to rag on shows they don't like. Whilst it's fine to have things we don't like, why do we have to focus on the negatives when we could be focussing on the positives?
 
Because at times the negatives provide suitable case examples of how NOT to do a series, so that the next time around, the same mistakes aren't repeated.
 
Except the majority will just treat these threads as a place to moan about what they personally don't like. It's like Jump the Shark where increasingly the lead argument for hating a show will be "The hot wife got fat".
 
God, I hate these threads.

We can never decide what the world's greatest cartoons are, and we can never decide what the world's worst cartoon is.
 
Same here. They're never about the "worst cartoons in history". They're always just about cartoons that people simply don't like.

Either people don't understand these threads, or they just don't care.
 
Indeed. Even though we all know in our hearts that the Mr. T cartoon was the greatest thing ever to come into the world. My reason is valid because it is right and you are wrong.

The reason it is the greatest is because Mr. T punched a shark in that one episode. Your arguments against that are riddle with fallacies and thus are wrong!
