Cartoons That You Missed Out On When They Originally Aired.

Are there any cartoons that any of y'all didn't check for or check out when they first ran for any reason? And then when y'all finally did later, y'all knew there was a show that suddenly appealed to y'all once y'all became hooked and found just what y'all have been missing the whole time, for as long as y'all have? I skipped seeing Fillmore! and Jackie Chan Adventures when they initially aired, but caught up on what I'd been missing later on Youtube and IMDB, which made up for it. I saw some of the episodes of each and now I love them very much, and wish I had seen them sooner. They since got onto my favorites list. I'm not sure why it took me quite some time to get into them until later.

I missed the first two "Books" of Avatar: The Last Airbender when it first aired, unfortunately I wrote the series off as a generic anime wannabe that was trying to capitolize on the success of shows like DBZ and Naruto. Boy will I never make that mistake again. I started watching it after seeing a trailer for the upcoming 3rd season of the show and I fell in love with it and went back and watched the first two seasons of Avatar and never looked back.

I also missed the TMNT reboot in 2003, again I wrote it off as a cheesy remake of the original (which I was a fan) and I paid no mind to the series until reading stellar reviews online claiming it was darker and more action oriented then the classic series. I eventually purchased the DVD's and now love the show and regret passing on it to this day, I really need to stop making these kind of mistakes when it comes to watching cartoons.

I know I wrote off a few Seasons of Pokemon, because I thought the show was starting to slow down. I watched reruns on the weekdays and now online to catch up.

For me, it would be Daria mostly because I never watched MTV except for Spy Groove, and it never came on some of the international feeds when I was overseas.

I missed out on Avatar when it first came out, I don't really know why it just didn't apeal to me. But I've been watching the marathons that Nicktoons has been airing since the movie came out, and I love it. I can't believe I never gave it a second look when it was new its awesome. I just picked up the first season on DVD last week, and I plan on picking up 2 and 3 soon.

Animaniacs, didn't discover that show till a few months ago. Darkwing Duck, I have still yet to watch that series, I want to though. BRAS, watched it later on Cartoon Network. DBZ, DB. I didn't even know how old those two shows were. I thought they were being made as I watched them on Toonami. There were skit of shows I missed out on first run.

The 2002 He-Man - My town didn't have Cartoon Network until 2004. When I finally did get CN in 2004, I was very disappointed to see that He-Man was no longer featured. Of course, this was just one of many things that disappointed me about CN during that first month or so when I finally got the channel.

The 80's Transformers. It was the only Hasbro series I didn't get into at the time (G.I. Joe, Jem and My Little Pony were on my regular viewing schedule, though).

I only started watching the show when I got the movie on DVD, then started picking up the Rhino sets.

You can probably count the number of times that I watched Pepper Ann on One Saturday Mornings. When I watched reruns on Toon Disney I was hooked.

The Batman. I initially skipped it because I just wasn't impressed by the character designs and the anime-looking influence. But then I started seeing bits and pieces while channel surfing, and each time I found myself watching a bit longer than the last time. Then one day I found the first two seasons at Target for $15.99 each. I decided to pick them (Justice League was over and I was craving new Batman adventures) and give it a try, and I burned through both seasons in about two days. I loved it!

Avatar: The Last Airbender is another show that took me a while to watch and I've seen some episodes too. I plan on picking up the DVD box sets as well myself eventually.

A thread on the Entertainment Board reminded me that I didn't get into Gargoyles until 2009. Once again, I was overseas when it aired, and when I moved back to the States, Toon Disney aired it late at night and it was the Avalon World Tour arcs (or whatever you call it), that didn't seem all that interesting.
In college, I watched an episode from the first (and best) season and saw a scene where a character got shot, and showed blood, which being a Disney show, peaked my interest.

Batman Brave and the Bold and Teen Titans.
Batman's new look in the series was kind of a turn off for me.
Than there was the talk of it being kiddie friendly, which I was worried of.
I tuned into that musical episode and that caught my attention, since than I've been hooked. Teen Titans is a so and so show for me, I think I started getting intrested in that one when Slade forced Robbin to be apart of his team, those were intresting and fun episodes.

Oh boy, lots and lots of them. I didn't get Cartoon Network or Disney until around 1999, never watched Disney much to begin with, and then I abandoned pretty much all cartoons around 2003 for some odd reason.

Cartoon Network
Somehow, I never saw anything that they put out in the aughties until Chowder, which I watched through the recommendation of a friend and now consider a personal fave. About a year ago, another friend sent me a Life and Times of Juniper Lee episode on a whim, and I liked it. Among the other CN originals from the aughties, the only two that look enticing are Camp Lazlo and Sheep in the Big City.

Disney Channel
I dunno why, but I just never watched the channel much even when I finally got it! I picked up Gargoyles Season 1 on a whim and just LOVED it, so once I get more money I'm gonna pursue Season 2. Also, I checked out The Wuzzles and Gummi Bears online since both were before my time. I'm also thinking about going to Darkwing Duck, which somehow escaped my radar.

Nickelodeon
Somehow, as I mentioned in the Nick forum, I never caught a second of Ren & Stimpy because I knew it was grossout humor and everyone was annoying me by singing the "Happy happy joy joy" song. I should remedy that. Also, my first taste of Invader Zim was about 30 seconds of "Bolognius Maximus" which left me in a very long state of "WTF did I just watch?!" from which I never recovered until I finally gave the show a second chance in 2008.

Warner Bros. Silver Age
My cousins got me watching Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs when I was about 5, and I abandoned it after maybe two episodes because I just didn't get that it was supposed to be a Looney Tunes homage; my Aspie mind thought it was a cheap knockoff. The only things I remembered were the theme and Montana Max. Since then, I picked up the first half of Season 1 (where the heck is the second set of discs hiding? I can't find it in any store!) also on a lark, and have found that the show was pretty darn good.

And as I've said before, I find Animaniacs to be 1 part funny to 37 parts annoying, so unless it's just the Pinky & the Brain segments (in which I found no annoying at all), forget it.

Also, like — probably pretty much everyone else here except Peter — I never caught Taz-Mania or Freakazoid! until they reran on CN in the early aughties. I found the former very pleasing and the latter, I have no recollection of except the lunacy of the theme song. Maybe Candle Jack erased the memories of

Other
Since I liked the first two Sonic cartoons, I thought I'd check out Sonic Underground. And I really, honestly like it. And it seems like I'm the only one.

Also, the original Biker Mice from Mars (hard to find that one anywhere!) and The Raccoons. Those latter episodes mix comedy and drama, and in a kids' cartoon... oh, and the music's awesome too. Lisa is the childhood furry crush I never had as a kid.

I remember catching the first few minutes of an Invader Zim episode on Nickelodeon, back when they still had the evening SLAM! block. I was intrigued, but I forgot about it soon after I changed the channel. In 2008, I decided to rent the Doom Doom Doom: Vol. 1 dvd at Blockbusters on a whim. I fell in love with the series after viewing the entire disc. In fact, I was angry at myself for not getting into it back when it was still premiering on Nick.

I'm pretty much the same I wrote the show off also. Not only was it the fact that it looked liked they just ripped off anime but I dont watch Nick shows at all was never a big fan of the Nicktoons all that much. Also the fans overhyped the show and thats always a turnoff for me. Wolverine and the X-Men premiered and I saw an Avatar marathon before and was blown away.

Invader Zim is anther Nicktoon I didn't bother with. Like I said before I dont watch Nick so I pretty much missed it. I discovered the show this summer and find it really funny I'm shocked this show doesn't have new episodes. Whats wrong with Nick this show is brilliant.

Beavis and Butthead and first few seasons of South Park: This wasn't by choice for some reason in the 90's my Cable provider took MTV and Comedy Central off and I didn't get them tell I think 1999. Thankfully caught up to Soth Park in reruns BaBH I had to watch them on dvd so I couldn't see some of the banned episodes sadley.

Seems like most of my animation studies have been spent playing catch-up with shows I should have been watching already. Such examples include:

- "The Ren and Stimpy Show". My mom wouldn't let me watch this, and I sternly obeyed her because I was a dork. So it wasn't until my teenage years that I discovered just how unashamedly insane this show was.
- "Freakazoid". Sadly, I didn't get the WB for the first four or five years of its existence, so I missed out on the 1995-96 season of Kids' WB, a.k.a. the Greatest Saturday Morning Lineup Ever.
- "South Park". Okay, yeah, it's still on, but for the first 13-and-a-half seasons, I largely ignored it based on the misconception that it was just another cheap toilet humor show. Boy, did I have a lot to learn.
- "The Powerpuff Girls". I only watched a handful of episodes before my dad decided he didn't want me watching "girls' shows" and made this strictly off-limits. Of course, I knew it wasn't just a girls' show, but he didn't care.
- "Kim Possible". Same deal as above, really. The lack of official DVD releases for this show makes catching up with it doubly difficult, though.
- "Avatar: The Last Airbender". Much like Watchmen and Scott Pilgrim, I got on board with this so I could better familiarize myself with the source material of another big-budget movie adaptation aimed squarely at us geeks. Good thing I watched the show first, too, 'cause the movie sucks hard.
