Cartoons That Didn't Have to Be Cartoons

I have to disagree with King of the Hill. While it could have been done as a live action, it wouldn't lasted three seasons instead of the 12 seasons its been on now.

It's lasted longer than Friends and Seinfield.

But in Japan's favor, I hear that regular live action shows outside the Tokusatou don't do well or don't have the best budget all the time, so they really are using the medium to their advantage.

Plus that's why anime is sent here more than a LA Japanese show, since:

A. Anime dubs are easier to match with the character's lip movement.
B. Execs are under the impression that the US audience wouldn't be too interested in shows that have only Japanese actors.

the easy ones have already been named(king of the hill, according to ginger, proud family, braceface)

Kim Possible-easily could have been another disney channel teen show...kind of like 'the famous jett jackson' or the 'zenon' movies..of course, it probably wouldn't have had the same appeal and cuteness factor but still could have been done to an extent...

Beverly Hill Teens-could have been an even more exagerrated high school sitcom than saved by the bell.

Josie and the Pussycats-this could have been done like the monkees...it wouldn't have been too hard to have the live action adventures of girls in skin-tight leopard print outfits....and not too many of us red blooded males would have protested.

Inspector Gadget-okay, we all saw the atrocity that disney gave us with the movies, but it still could have been done in a style like get smart, batman or police squad..the effects would have been really lame most likely and Brain would just be a normal dog, but i could see them doing this.

Dudley Do-Right -another one that could have been done in the style of the old adam west Batman series....

no way, thatd be far to expensive for Disney channel to make a live action series out of, pluss it wouldnt work. Some of the gadgets wouldnt look as cool, the weather machine episode would look lame as hell, Kims death-defying stunts would look ridiculous, the robots and magic and ninja monkey's would be hard and look dumb in real life. can anyone here imagine real life spining tops of doom, i cant. Pluss all the different scenery and places on Kim Possible, theyd have to travel around the world just to record the thing. Some of the villins just wouldnt work in live action, example Monkey fist (his ninja monkeys too), the irish guy in the kilt with the exploding golf balls, that snowman from the episode with the snowman, and Gill would be beyond stupid looking. The list goes on and on.

this show is most definately not live action material.

Yes, but if a show like Kim Possible had started as a live action series, as this thread suggests, then they would have had more down to Earth characters and fewer special effects, so you wouldn't have to worry about making LA ninja monkeys and related stuff. Really, it would have probably sucked as a live action show, but you get my point, right? And, as you said, it would be way too expensive.
