Cartoons that deserve a remake

Personally, I'd rather move forward with all-new original series ideas than remake older ones, but there are definitely two that I would watch if the right people got their hands on them.

G.I. Joe: Resolute proved that a serious approach to the Joe and Cobra saga could work and work well, so I'm behind a new Joe animated series 100%, especially when you consider that live-action movie coming out in a couple weeks looks like it has only the power to kill babies and blow the heads off dogs from miles away.

The other is Legion of Superheroes. I know the last (and only) incarnation of this just came out a couple years ago, but Legion fans were truly robbed by its incredibly ham-handed approach: cramming not one but TWO Supermans... mens, uh... something down our throats, opting for some of the very lamest characters in the Legion (I'm looking at YOU, Bouncing Boy) while completely ignoring frankly superior choices, and the worst offense had to be reducing several personalities that were complex and engaging in the comics to simple "one-note" stereotypes in the show. Give me another Legion show that's written with some sincerity and actually tackles the epic scope of that universe, and all is forgiven.

I would be all for a MOTU remake as well, but there was just a series 5 years ago or so and maybe fans would think it's too soon, especially if it's done poorly. I would wait maybe 3 more years and then give it a shot, maybe kick it off with an animated movie and a short 13 episode season to see how it fares or something along those lines.

I wouldn't mind seeing a modern day Dennis the Mennace too.

I can't comment on Baby Blues, since I've never seen that show.

But if the post-Schulz Peanuts specials are any indication, I don't think we need more Charlie Brown. Charles Schulz, Lee Medleson and Bill Melendez were the only ones who could do Chuck and the gang properly. I prefer to just savor the memories of the Charlie Brown cartoons in their heyday.

Don't expect a revival of Charlie Brown anytime soon. After the death of Charles Schultz, no one is allowed to produce any new Peanuts material that wasn't started by Schultz himself or didn't originate from the comic strip.

I've said it before but only because it's such an obvious choice and playable card and that's SwatKats.

Let's face it, a little updating and this could get off the ground easily without being too dated to have a narrow margin of appeal. There's practically a whole lot of expansion that could be done on the original series so long as they don't change the cast or designs in an overly drastic way as it may end up unappealing and/or bizarre.

I've no idea personally why this hasn't been seriously thought about by the creators as it seems to be a shoe-in for a remake.

Honestly, Captain Planet held the 5:30A time slot for more then 5 years on CN. I always thought of it as the show that's on in the morning as a marker to say either "If you're still up when this show comes on, GO TO SLEEP NOW!" or "It's too damned early to get up now, GO BACK TO SLEEP".

It being on at 6:00A on Boomerang now (since it got removed from CN) carries the same message.

Even when it was airing originally, it carried a similar message!

This series has earned its place in history.

This is the way it should be to be honest. Schultz IS the Peanuts and if anyone else was to end up writing comic strips or making animated specials based on the Peanuts it just wouldn't be "right", if you catch my drift. It's like whenever you see the Muppets pop up on television every now and again these days, it just does not have the same flair and feel that it had when Jim Henson was still alive, I think the same would end up happening to Chuck n' pals but it may come off even worse. Hell, even some of the more recent specials from the 80's starring the Peanuts were terrible and those had Schultz attatched to them, so yeah I would probably just keep them retired.

I have always felt that done by the right people a Captain Planet remake could be something great. People who could balance the environmental/moral lessions of the show with good animation, character designs, story telling and so on.

The show is such a mess, yet it has enough potentual that by the right people it could have been great.

Basically, we need more DCAU. In Static Shock, Batman told Static that there was a Teen Titans in the DCAU and that he would meet them eventually.

And, originally the Legion of Superheroes series that did happen was going to spun-off a couple of episodes of Justice League Unlimited where Supergirl joins them. But, WB wanted Superman in the series to coincide with Superman Returns.

I imagine it wouldn't be that hard to find someone who does a decent Bogart impression. But if anyone ever did decide to revive Shirt Tales, I would hope they would take it back to the first season's continuity. Season 2 of Shirt Tales was kind of lacking.

I'm actually surprised that with that avatar you're not suggesting Inhumanoids.

That was an AWESOME mini series. Certainly one of the most cohesive story lines of its day. It still highly enjoyable to watch today even with the dated animation.

Thats a series that deserves a direct remake with a little dialouge polish and a little story polish. Of all the 80s series (or mini-series) thats certainly the best one that you could just take and directly remake with minimal effort.

It would make an awesoem Halloween release on some network (Toonami would have been idea but Ani-Monday would probably be the best venue today.)
