Cartoons that deserve a remake

I'd like to see a Street Shark reboot. It could made like the TMNT 2003 series and may be amazing. Then there is Mighty Max but I barely remember it.

I agree with earlier sentiments about Transformers. The new series was a good direction but was far too stylized and not written as well as I would have liked but it was far better than the imported stuff. I think it could use more of are imagining than a reboot.

I think Beverly Hills Teens needs to be remade, but with all the original characters returning, and the show taking a much more dramatic tone for an animated series, similar to that of shows like 90210, Melrose Place, or most recently, Gossip Girl or One Tree Hill.

I, would like to see a more mature and sexier version of both Bianca DuPree and Lark Tanner myself, but Cookie Jar would have to put BHT on in prime time for me to see all that cleavage!

So, as I mentioned over the Cookie Jar / DIC thread, here are a few series I pretty much expect to see remakes / revisits in the near future:


  • Inspector Gadget: To monopolize on the recent movie. It was always a staple DIC series.
  • Heathcliff: There's a new movie on the horizon for this series so I expect a new series to monopolize on it.
  • The Real Ghostbusters: Again, new movie coming out.
  • Captain N: Nintendo has been suggesting this is coming.
  • Alvin and the Chipmonks: Again, to monooplize on the recent movie and next coming movie.
  • Sherlok Holmes: Again, movie... If DIC still had the animation rights, somehting might happen there.
  • Wheeled Warriors: JMS sounds like he's interesting in working on the series again. With his contract done with Marvel he's now a free agent. This series was originally a series that was before its time (Who ever heard of an arched series ... IN THE 80s!!!).
Right there, that could almost be Cookie Jars Saturday morning line up next year.

It might be a little too nitchy to go remake every series who just got a new movie or will be getting one soon, but the marketing is SURELY there.
 
Jem and the Holograms, for sure! Even Christy Marx wants to do a remake. Of course, there are undefined legal problems and whatnot. Lady Lovely Locks is worth a mention, although I doubt how well that would fare today.
 
I loved the old Ghostbusters series from the 80's, I would totally welcome a current reincarnation of the series, with the new video games and possible movie on the horizon I wouldn't be suprised to see something in the works sometime soon. Heck, they even have comic books coming out based on GB, so why not an animated series too?

Further, DIC/Cookie Jar don't have the rights to Alvin, Gadget, Holmes, & Heathcliff anymore. Not so sure about Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors (to use the full, official title). Alvin, in fact, is with whom now? Universal? There are 2 studios putting out Holmes live-action movies, including Warners, so there are definitely rights issues for a new toon.
 
It did air on Boomerang, back in like, 2005 (?), but they only aired the first season episodes and never aired the second season. The run was short lived and after a few rotations it was gone.

And I second the Jem remake, as long as Christy Marx is behind it's return.
 
DC did a slammin' miniseries that finally explained SG's origin a few years back. Warners could adapt this into a movie first, then try a new series. As for Jonny, while I'm not on board with a live-action movie (Zac Efron as Jonny? WTF!), a new cartoon would be better served. This is Jonny's 45th anniversary, y'know!
 
What recent movie? You're not talking about the ten year old live action movie, are you?

Oh, and on a completely different note, i myself would love to see a remake of the so called "generation one" My Little Pony cartoon. That's right, you heard me!
 
Adapted for television around 1994-5 for CBS by Nelvana, I believe. Lack of affiliate support killed it.



Calamity Jane came & went so fast, it's a wonder people do remember. WB gave up on it too quickly. I remember both previous Ranger series. The 1980 edition (w/William Conrad, billed as J. Darnoc) was great stuff, but then, there's a certain charm to the long-forgotten '66 series. I would love to have them both on DVD.

Now, here's a thought. If the rights holders to the Ranger think of it, why not build a new Ranger series around the prospect of his interacting with old west legends (i.e. Calamity Jane, Buffalo Bill, et al)?
 
Thundercats could use a modern day remake, I know they are planning a CGI film, but an animated series wouldn't hurt either and it would open up $$$ oppertunities with toys, apparel, comics and more. Maybe a new series featuring the Muppets would be cool, the muppets have been all but dead (besides movies) for the past few years and I think a new animated series or even another live action sketch comedy series like "The Muppet Show" could work if done correctly.

Superman is another property that I think needs an animated series, he was at one point the most recognizable comic book character/hero in the world, it isn't right that he is without TV exposure right now sans Smallville.
 
It's good that someone else besides me wanted to see a Centurions remake. ;) I myself had some ideas on how the remake would go.

I also think that ThunderCats and Pirates of Water deserve remakes.
 
You know I always thought Silverhawks had a lot of potential. Give it a tighter continuity and a smarter, more scientifically accurate mythology and you could have a really epic outer space cartoon.
 
Exosquad, with the same writers but better animation. And maybe recast some of the VAs (or at least get a few more, I swear I heard Robbie Benson, Garry Chalk and Teryl Rothery being reused SO much...)
