Cartoons that deserve a remake

It's pretty recent, I know, but...Danny Phantom.

A new version of DP with a stronger sense of humor, better characterization and a more appropriate music score...it could very well be the classic show its fans hold it up to be.
 
American Animation is kind of a rut right now with the introduction of new series.

The library of animation in our archives contains many gems that certainly deserve some remakes.

We've seen a few in the past and each incarnation of the series just gets better and better. Some prime examples are CN's 2001 remake of He-man or the recent remakes for Spiderman and X-men. Even the semi-recent remake of Action Man was leaps and bounds better then its last incarnation.

What 70s, 80s or 90s series do you think could turn into a really neat and very marketable series for today's audience ?
 
G1 Transformers.

I believe after the dreadful live action movies,The world needs this.

I would have Furman incharge,with Cullen and welker on board.

I would have it produced in HD in the art style shown in The Call of the Primitives episodes.

I would like to see them pick the best parts of the story,from season 1-3 and the movie.Then build from that with new material.

I would rather this happen,than in 10-15 years time,Megan Fox is all this generation of fans remember.
 
Well, Cutey Honey did had some remakes, maybe Sailor Moon could have a remake as well :) As for Toei holding the SM franchise in hostage because they want to push for their live-action series. Well get the live-action series but I doubt it will be successeful.

Strange with Amy/Mercury getting its own short movie (Amy's first love) and Minako/Venus who beginned under the name Sailor V, they didn't studied the possibility of creating spin-off series of SM but that's another history.

Another animated series I wish for a remake is Rocket Robin Hood, it could be darker as the 1990s Batman animated series or going the spoof/parody way like Space Ghost and Harvey Birdman. Also including an episode zero to see how RRH decided to be an outlaw like his ancestor Robin Hood.

Not a remake, more of a sequel to UFO Robot Grendizer, if Duke Fleed and Maria returns on Earth after rebuilding their own planet Fleed.

Btw, I wondered if there once a plan to made a remake of Fat Albert if the live-action movie hadn't bombed?
 
I'd like to see a new Sam & Max series, possibly airing at night where the censors have a looser hand, so it would be closer to Steve Purcell's comics.
 
I saw an attempt at a Fat Albert revival of sorts years ago, but this was back in the late '80's/early '90's, years before the movie, and not on TV, but on the shelves of the now-defunct K&K Toys store. It was a line of dolls which included a slightly redesigned Fat Albert and a modified and condensed number of Cosby Kids: Bill (called 'Little Bill here), another black kid and a white kid, whose names I can't remember presently. To my knowledge, this 'new' Fat Albert never appeared on TV and I never saw the merchandise anywhere else since, so I guess this was a planned revival which never happened.
 
Ghostbusters. I've played the new video game and it rocks. I would definitely watch a revival of the cartoon series - and I'd like it to be in CGI, as in the game, and have the original cast provide the voices (or at least very good sound-a-likes).
 
Transformers- They have been trying and trying to remake the G1 series and frankly there attpets haven't been all that good. The anime shows are just terrible they went with that cig robots over traditianal animation and it didn't look good. that and they were more toyetic then the the past series was. Animated while it had some great ideas they had some pretty poor ones at that. The overstylized art while in Spectacular Spider-Man people were able to get used to it and it actaully worked in the Teen Titans series it wasn't the case here.

Really why cant they just look at the comics and animate that is it really that hard. Oh and dont air it on Cartoon Network it will just get put on a crappy time slot after five episodes.

Thundercats- Agreed with Nemesis Wonder on this one a show with todays writing would be awesome.

Dragonball- Every other anime under the sun lately gets a brand new animated manga accurate remake but Dragonball just gets an HD edited update. While its nice I just feel annoyed about aspects of Kai that makes me wish they just took the gamble and gave us a new animated series not an edited rehash.
 
Since I have a reputation to uphold, I'm going to go slightly more obscure :):

- Cadillacs and Dinosaurs: The original Xenozoic Tales comics were wicked cool (and still unfinished). At its best, the original cartoon in the 1980's didn't dumb things down too badly. Still, the lame animation didn't compare to Mark Schultz's original beautiful artwork and at its worst, it was another really rotten toon from the '80's. I'd like for someone to take a more serious crack at this one. It's babes and beefcake driving classic 50's automobiles and fighting dinosaurs. What's not to like?

- Dungeons and Dragons: I don't know if I'd want to see a faithful adaptation of the Forgotten Realms stuff, but getting more fantasy animation on the air can't be a bad thing. Might also wash out the sour taste left behind by that execrable Dragonlance animated DTV.

- The Legend of Calamity Jane: I actually don't want a remake of this as much as I want someone to air the whole series and then make more, or put it on DVD or iTunes. Only watched a bit of one episode, but the visual style knocked me out and the story didn't seem bad. Plus, more Westerns, please. And along those lines...

- The Lone Ranger: Way back when I was a kid, Filmation made a Tarzan/Lone Ranger/Zorro adventure hour. Of the 3, I'd say I want to see a really good adaptation of the Lone Ranger again, though I wouldn't say no to a good Tarzan or Zorro adaptation, either. Mostly, the Lone Ranger's got cowboy hats, silver bullets, and a certain Nobility of Spirit -- again, what's not to like?

In general, though, I'd prefer to see something new rather than a remake of something I've already seen.
 
Well it doesn't matter if it is successful. The way I would view the live action series, if it has to be package with the anime, is it is what people in the trade business call a throw in. They don't even have to put it on the air, just get the licence to the live action show and sit on in if they want.
 
I've been watching Centenarians on Boomeraction for about the last month or so and I have to say it has some very good qualities that I think would make a marvelous remake.


  • The character models. Each of the trio has a real heroic quality to them.
  • The music remains very solid and would vastly benefit from a little rework.
  • The basic story is solid.
For those of you not familiar with the basic story of Centenarians, its loosely the oldest incarnation of Star Trek's Borg. The main Villian, Dr Terror, wants to turn the world into Cyborgs.

If the story was expanded and new technology was taken into account, some really neat stories could come of this.

I think if the series was planned into about five 5-part archs it could make a very dynamic series. I'm not sure if the series would be great to extend beyond more then 2 seasons, but I think the potential is there.

Here's how I'd roll out the First Arch:
Arch 1: Orgins - This first arch would follow with Dr. Terror's origins as well as a strong ethical / philosophical debate weather someone can be "cured" of being evil and weather its ethical to attempt to reprogram someones brain to force them to be as such.

Dr. "Terror" (before he was Dr. Terror) is a renowned Scientist who is dabbling with biotechnology and nanonites with an intent to try to rehabilitate criminals. His first subject, "Hacker" seems very successful by the nanonites have an intended effect. Instead of 'fixing' a criminal subject, the nanonites carry the engrams that influenced a person to be bad and impose them on another person.

After Dr. Terror becomes infected by his own nanonites, he's driven insane and comes to the conclusion the only way he can stamp out evil is to assimilate everyone into a collective where their morals are dictated by the greater good.

Specialist in this field, Crystal Cain, is called to the scene of Dr. Terror's experiment by the council of scientists a few days after the experiment took place in an effort to find out why no one has heard or seen Dr. Terror in days.

She is eventually caught by Dr. Terror. After a few more days, Dr. Terror unviels his new body along with his recent patient both now cybernized. He annouces his intent to bring peace to the world by cybernizing the rest of the world starting with Crystal Cain.

Determining that a direct assault wasn't possible, the World Government assmebles a highly specialized team consisting one of the best persons from the Marines, the Air Force and the Army (note, at this time they are not officially recognized as "Centuarians" nor do they have the suits or equipment).

In so far, I think that would start out as a GREAT series. I think it would be right up the alley for Syfy's Animonday or possibly to a lesser degree Adult Swim.
 
I agree there. The very closest we've gotten since G1 was Beast Wars. Beast Wars was epic and followed the storyline. Thanks for Fox, Beast Machines was less then stellar.

I think its fair to say everyone just wants a *REAL* transformers series that doesn't take liberties all over the place. Just give us a series true to the original!



Back before CN went all weird (before Toonami died out) we had some pictures floating around of a Thundercats remake.

I tend to think this series either got axed because CN didn't want to funnel money into it (since they changed their direction completely) or it got postponed to monopolize off the movie next year.
 
thundercats, yes I know it almost happened. Anyway I think if it was given a He-man 2002 style reboot, loyal to the original while changing some of the more rediculous ideas it would be for the best. Besides that would also give Thindercats a chance to have good voice acting for once. The voice acting prevents me to this day to give the original a fair chance. I want to like it but I can't.
 
Thats what the rumor was.

And you know what? He-Man 2002 was AWESOME. I remember watching the series and literally applauding at how creative some of the scenes were.

Even the opening was a spoof on it self and still be taken seriously. I loved it.

If you've never seen the openings, I highly suggest comparing them:

He-Man 2002 should be running on Boomerang if nothing else =(
 
Please don't think for one second that I didn't know that. It was a hypothetical argument about how shows that have little or nothing to do with characters like Superman and the like ever get made at all. But you clearly understand that.
