Cartoon versions of comic book characters that are better then the originals

I've always felt that Gentleman Ghost and Mad Hatter's animated versions were fantastic and I already loved them in comics. They are two of the most creative and interesting DC characters ever in my opinion, and animation made them even better.

I think you are being too hard on BTAS Mr. Freeze, he has one sub par episode and 3 really good ones, that's a pretty good track record for a character.

I do think there are certain characters that the comics do better, for example the Red Skull has made guest appearances in several cartoons, but considering the Red skull is unique in the Marvel universe because he is pure evil, its hard to have a truly evil villain a sat morning cartoon. The Red Skull is a racist, mass murdering psychopath, not the kind of villain you put on Sat Morning cartoons.

Yeah, the Red Skull just isn't himself unless he gets to openly proclaim his intentions to exterminate the jews. Which, of course, would get quite some attention from media watchdogs if he ever did in a cartoon...

Well where are they going to learn it then? To heck with the soccer moms, our children need to be warned about this stuff. The words "never again" don't mean "let's never mention it again".

Its like sex, it exists, kids are going to find out about it sooner or later, but soccer moms are going to hid from kids as long as possible and say cartoons are not the proper venue for that type of content.

Which is why I'm a little worried about Red Skull showing up in Super Hero Squad. No amount of Mark Hamill will save what will probably be a watered down version.

As for cartoon version, I actually find the Teen Titans version of Starfire to be somewhat more interesting that in the comics, where she is little more than eye-candy.

Another not-so-popular example is Maxie Zeus in both B:TAS and The Batman. In the former, his psychology is explored in an interesting way in a good one-shot, while in the latter, Maxie is shown to be a credible threat to both Batman and all of Gotham. Both of these are a far cry from the loser mob boss in the comics.
