Cartoon characters with mistaken genders

Has there been any cartoon character that was a gender you weren't expecting? Here's my list so far:
Nermal (Garfield)
Tamama (Sgt. Frog)
Haku (Naruto)

There's only one show as of right now I can think of that I still can't figure out which gender this character is...In fact many people are still arguing about it LOL

Yugioh 5D-I need to check on the name but it dresses like a girl yet the articles say its a boy, its very confusing :p

Theres this girl in this episode of family guy (Can't remember name) and since shes dressed as a boy, Chris thinks she is a boy.

This is a bit embarrassing, but when I first started watching W.I.T.C.H., I thought the character of Taranee Cook was a boy before I heard her talk.

That's Rally, and he's a boy. People thought 4Kids might mistake him for a girl, but they got it right, fortunately. I like how you referred to him as an "it."

To be fair, it probably could go either way:

Pepper Ann's younger sibling. I still dont know if it was a boy or a girl.

I thought that Ducky from the Land Before Time was a boy with a girly voice and eyelashes to make him "cute" But im getting the feeling lately that he may be a she.

I thought Ed from Cowboy Bebop was a boy until I heard the word "she" referring to her in an episode. It doesn't help that she also has a boy name.

I thought Nermal was a girl. A lot of people thought too, from watching the cartoon. But he was referred to as a boy several times in the comic. And the movie, they made him more masculine, though out of character.

I thought Haku was a girl when I first saw him as well.

Oh yeah...Ed's a good example. Though, Faye was like "Hey, you're a girl!" off screen at the end of Ed's debut episodes, though, so it wasn't really supposed to be a big mystery (except during the other 99% of her debut episode, of course :p).

Yes Rally, thank you. I said it becuase people are still arguing to this about the gender LOL. But yah, boy..

Tweety, is also very confusing to me. Looks like a girl, but flirts with girls. So I'm like What????

Short for Edwina. Turn to the right. ;)

I remember on Conan and the Young Warriors, Conan was training two brothers and a sister. I thought the younger brother, with the pet mongoose, was a girl. I think he was even voiced by an actress.

I used to be a moderator on the official Happy Tree Friends forum and I know for a fact that a lot of people still argue over the gender of the porcupine character, Flaky. The people who work on the show eventually intervened and told people that the character was female, but people still argue about the character?s gender to this day. Some people have even refused to believe what the creators said and continue to insist that Flaky is a male character.

I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me here, but I absolutely loved when 4kids dubbed the PKMN Chronicles special: The legend of Raikou--and formally changed Atilla's gender from male (in the original JP version) to female (for the dub).

I thank you 4kids, for saving the dubbed audience, the hardship of character gender confusion. I think Viz needs to learn from this.

Speaking of the Pokemon anime, the gang's pokemon are constantly being debated as to what gender they each belong too. I remember when everyone discovered Aipom was a female--the big shock on everyone's face continues to haunt me today.

Anyway, what I dislike hearing the most is when the dubbing writers and/or the plot writers address a pokemon as an "it" instead of a "he" or "she". In my opinion, the word "it" should only be used to address exceptional pokemon (like legendaries, etc.), since this type of dialogue discriminates against pokemon and only serve to mislead the viewer that pokemon are only tools and not living beings.
