Cartoon Characters Heard On The Radio

Have you ever heard clips from your favorite cartoons on the radio? Weather it's in a promotional spot, or A 'Morning Zoo' type of show? I could give you some examples I've heard in my lifetime. The now defunct WOMP FM in Steubenville, OH. had a promo clip that featured Fat Albert saying 'Hey, Hey, Hey, Love to go crusin!' In another defunct station, WYDD in Pittsburgh, there was a Halloween promo that featured June Foray in her Natasha/Magica voice saying 'my friends call me creepy'. Rick Dees use to have cartoon voices on his countdown show. He even got Mel Blanc to voice Daffy Duck saying 'Rick Dees, you better play my favorite song!' One station in Philadelphia used Bugs Bunny's 'redisposed of the monster' line from 'Hair Raising Hare'. In the 80's, B-94 of Pittsburgh used the 'The Flintstones' intro for their 5 0'clock whistle routine. Those are the ones i remember hearing. What are your cartoon encounters on the radio?

A few years back in the place where I used to work, I would have the radio on for most of the day, and I would hear radio commercials for one the station's sponsors, Hormel chili. There was one spot which took place in a childrens' classroom and E.G. Daily (the voice of Tommy Pickles and Buttercup) voiced one of the students. Another Hormel spot had a married couple preparing to go on vacation and Tress MacNeille voiced the wife. Naturally, in each case, I recognized their voices right away.

While on vacation in California years ago, I heard a radio station that used the Road Runner's "Meep meep!" as part of the intro to their traffic report.

As for local radio, 92.3 WPRO-FM used to introduce a nightly show called the Top 7 at 9 (a countdown of the seven most requested songs of the day) using clips from various cartoons, including "The Simpsons" (Duffman's "WHO WANTS TO PARTY?") and "South Park" (Mr. Garrison's "Boy, I'll tell ya somethin', Mr. Hat, bein' hot and sexy is fun for a while but it sure does get boring!"). And on 94.1 WHJY-FM, the afternoon DJ Charles always ends his show with a different audio clip, usually something from "The Simpsons" - I've heard Comic Book Guy's "Worst episode ever!" and Apu's mangling of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", among others. Someone at WHJY must be a huge Simpsons fan, as they also got Harry Shearer to record some station-specific promos as Ned Flanders.

While 'voice actors in radio commercials' wasn't my main topic, I guess I could throw in a few that i've heard before. One ad for a Texas themed amusement park had Frank Welker voicing some cowboy characters. I also remember a radio ad that had Will Ryan, and John Stephenson in his 'Mr. Slate' voice. I don't know what the ad was for, though, but it was from the mid 80's. Speaking of which, I've heard the late great Lorenzo Music in radio ads for Zeltzer Seltzer, and Dominos Pizza. (Or was it Four Star Pizza?) in the mid 80's. I've heard Michael Bell's voice in some spots for Denny's, too.

One local radio station I used to listen to regularly incorporated snippets of South Park vocal tracks. Their evening show would regularly use a recording of Stan's "It's 8 o' clock!" ever weeknight at 8PM, as well as Sheila Brovlovsky's "What-what-WHAT??", both from the season 1 episode "Death".

I remember when I was six or seven, I heard a radio station using dialogue from the 4kids Yu-Gi-Oh dub (specifically, Seto Kaiba saying something along the lines "Blah, Blah, Blah, Why do you always spout the same garbage whenever you're challenged?") in response to some politicians statement. Sorry for being so vague - I only remember the incident at all because hearing Kaiba on the radio completely blew my little six year old mind. :p

Yeah, the rock stations back at home have used many sound clips, particularly from the adult animated shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy. Specific ones I remember are Family Guy's "Sounds like fun!" "So much fun it should be illegal" from A Hero Sits Next Door, "Ugh, what's that smell?" "It's either bad meat or good cheese" from To Live And Die in Dixie, "Thanks for listening!" from Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, The Simpsons' "Yes, yes, yes, this rocks!" from Homerpalooza, and Futurama's "What smells like boot feet?" from Anthology of Interest. The modern rock station was also keen on using sound clips from the Weenie and The Butt radio show in Mother Tucker.

I don't remember the station or line, but I remember hearing a sound clip of Timmy's Dad from The Fairly Odd Parents on a rock station at some point one summer.

Several years ago, I believe 104.3 WZYP had a sound clip of Dale from King of the Hill in one of their ads.

Also several years ago, on the same station, the hosts of the station's morning show once did a prank phone call on an old man, using sound clips of Homer Simpson.

About two weeks ago I heard an Alaska Airlines radio spot with voices that sounded eerily similar to Peter Griffin and Joe Swanson.

I've heard Fred's "Yabba-dabba-do" used for an Indianapolis station's 5 o'clock whistle bit...

Not radio (but given I avoid commercial radio if I can help it, didn't have much to add to this anyway), but CHicago area TV show Svenghoolie often uses "Silver Age" Warner Bros. cartoon audio clips in its sketches---among others used:

- Yakko saying "He'll need a jumbo sized bandaid for *that* one"
- "Everybody, ha---ha--haaaa!" from a Rita and Runt cartoon
- "Call the satellite hookup and tell them to pull the plug on this travesty!", from that anti-smoking episode of Pinky and the Brain; used after a particularly corny sketch ;-)

A local hard rock station that I listen to has a clip of Johnny Bravo saying "Bring on the Danish chicks and cream soda!" that usually plays on station IDs.

A local radio station uses 3 different sound clips from cartoons in many of their spots:
- Homer Simpson saying "WOO-HOO! I like music!"
- Hank Hill saying "This is a song I wrote a long time ago."
- The piano teacher from one episode ofDexter's Laboratory saying "Listen to the music you've created!"

Many years ago I heard Kath Soucie (A very recognizable voice if you know who she is) in a radio spot. And in terms of radio shows, I also once heard Bill Farmer (The voice of Goofy) interviewed in character AS Goofy on one. He actually announced the Goofy movie sequel (It was called An Extremely Goofy Movie, right? I never saw it.) on it.
