To make a long story short, I was moving some stuff in boxes that apparently had carpet beetles in them. It took me a while to remove the boxes from my car.
Monday, I was removing them and saw the carpet beetles and their little tan larvae thing. I pulled up carpets and saw TONS of larvae in a few spots. The larvae have started to damage the carpet in my car.
I have read a lot of information on getting rid of carpet beetles in a house, but not much on getting rid of them in a car.
I bombed my car yesterday but the guy at Home Depot said the one I used was not the strongest.
I vacuumed before I bombed and then I vacuumed again. The bombing did not work! Yet, I didn't pull up the parts of the carpet that are easy to bring up. I also left the floor mats in my car.
Today, I sprayed insecticide in the places I knew they fed and where I saw the millions of larvae. The insecticide is low odor though.
I also read that they are attracted to meat... so I mixed cat food (wet and dry) with Borax and let is sit in my car.
I noticed that some of the beetles are coming out of hiding. They seem to be dead but who knows. I also saw one larvae. It was not there before I sprayed my car. Am I finally driving them out?
Tomorrow, I am going to sprinkle Borax and vacuum. This weekend, I am going to let off two better quality foggers in my garage (the boxes are in there now) with my car parked in it. The windows and doors will be open. I also plan on pulling up the carpet where I am able to and removing the mats. I will leave the mats in the garage though so they can get nuked.
Am I on the right path? My car smells terrible and I get a headache every time I get in it. What should I do? I want them gone and I want them to stay gone! I don't want to have to battle them for 6 months like some websites say might happen!
