Cardo scala rider G4 PowerSet...unless I hear otherwise.

After reading various reviews, forum posts and manufacturer websites I think I've finally decided on a communcation system. I needed a set that could be used for rider to rider or bike to bike and had features that would allow for MP3, FM and Phone via Bluetooth. I also wanted something I could use w/ a full face or half helmet. Not sure what I might do when I'm without a helmet yet. I have a Garmin GPS but I'm not sure I'd have the need to have them linked into my headset really.

The set retails for $489.95 but I've seen completed auctions go for just under $300.

So I decided on the Cardo Scala Rider G4 PowerSet. Unless someone gives a good argument against them of course. Speak now of forever hold your piece.

OK, for a start, I have the G4 and I am very happy with the powerset, but there are a few things I would point out.

The standard set comes with a mic which is on a flexible stem. This is ideal for all open face helmets but will be awkward for installing in a full face helmet. The do sell an alternative mic especially made for full face helmets, but that will cost you extra

I have seen some posts on here about installing on a half face helmet. I believe it can be done but do some research. I suspect they same issue will arise with most comms systems

As far as MP3 music over bluetooth is concerned, technically this works very well and I have no problems with this, but personally I think the sound quality for music is not as good as the standard HD headset system

That said, I am delighted with the G4

We have them. We use them on both half and full face HJC helmets. They are esay to change back and forth as they clip on like a vice. I think they work better on the full face because the mics are not exposed to the wind. On the half helmets I hear the wind on her mic in my speakers, not real bad but I hear only her voice with full face. The intercom and blue tooth phone work great. The FM radio is alright but not great. MP3 attached by wire is better than FM radio but not as good as earbuds would be. I have a RG with medium Clearveiw windsheild +1.5" over stock.

So what setup are you using to allow these to work with a half helmet? How do you attach the speakers is what I mean. I'm really interested in getting a set, just trying to figure that part out. Thanks for any help....

I just received mine. So far so good. The MP3 volume could be louder, but the wireless quality is excellent. I haven't tried the connectivity at distances, but I don't plan on using that feature anyway.

FWIW, I bought my set new/sealed from a dealer on Amazon.com for $329.90, shipped free.

There was a posting a while back and someone showed some pics. If I recall it did take some "bodging" but it looked straightforward enough and came out smart

My brother bought a power set, for him and his wife, and had multiple problems. Exchanged for another power set had problems with that set as well. He then exchanged the set for two single units, which is what I also have, and had no problems with them. Maybe a bad batch of power sets???, don't know.

The three of us returned from a 2800 mile trip to Texas and units performed very well. There were pairing problems from time to time but overall I would say they were a great addition to the trip. I agree with sound quality when it comes to music. I'm going to see if I can come up with some sort of housing for the speakers that will possibly push more music forward and move the speakers closer to my ears.

The bluetooth connection to my iPhone, which was used for Navigation, was priceless. It was so nice to get directional instructions when going through heavily traveled areas.
