S Shane New member Dec 7, 2009 #1 in a lab liquids, including methanol, ethanol, and corn oi, reacted with potassium permanganate and sulfuric acid and became clear or brown in color. this indicates carbon. this does not occur in a salt solution. Why does this happen?
