I have a yorkie who is about 5 months old now and our family adore him.
We like to take him places with us, to see our friends dogs which he adores, aswell as other places, pet shop, etc.

He likes going places but isnt keen on the car itself,
he prefers my mums car to my dads and is calmer in my mums,
he seems more agitated when the car is stopped than when its moving.

He will generally settle down and go to sleep but at soon as the car stops he crys abit and shakes, gets very upset, and even when the cars moving if hes not asleep hes very upset

I dont give him attention for the crying but its just not getting any better

Any advice anyone?

Do not do what CC says!! if you pet him while he is crying taht will just say your doing a good job at crying and that there is a reason to cry. try getting one of those car seats for dogs so that way, what ever car he is in, he has the comfort of being in the secure car seat. its possible he may be getting a little car sick. you should talk to the vet to see what the signs are and what they would do to help the problem (besides proscribing drugs) is he excited to get in the car? if he is, it might be a car sick thing, but if he doesnt like getting in the car, you may want to spend more time in it when its not running and just pay in there and giv ehim attention and treats (when hes not crying ofcourse) it wil take him for him to adjust to riding in the car. are you sure instead of being adjitated or anxious he is actually very excited. when my dogs are excited for food, they shake and whine and cry. he may just be so happy that he can't control himself. also talk to a trainer in your area and see if they can giv eyou any tips you could even try calling local animal shelters. some shelters take the time to train their dogs so they may have tips for you. good luck

You need to give him attention, so he feels secure in the car. Hold him, stroke him, so he feels safe.

i would try to get him to go into a little travel case when you travel in the car... just for the ride, maybe if he gets used to the case, he won't realize the difference in the car and will feel more comfortable if he has his little area he can stay in, they make really nice carrying kennels that will actually buckle into the seat to help protect your dog as well.

First, always make sure to put him in a secure crate. Put toys and comfy blankets in there.

When driving, be careful. Turn slowly, brake slowly, and start the car up slow from a stop, don't punch it.

Play some soft music on low, and talk to your dog. Keep the car at a good temperature, don't crank up the heat.

Eventually your dog will get used to riding in the car.
