Car trouble...

My car has been having trouble starting lately. This would be due to problems with the starter, or connections of wires to and from their appropriate locations.

Said wires have been checked, and adjusted so, as has the starter, or so my father says. Well, the same damn people keep fixing it, and the same damn thing keeps happening. I go to turn it on, no go.

Same deal, every single damn time. Makes about the 5th time now, I think?

So yesterday I got my car back from the shop, and everything runs fine. Today I hop into the car for an early morning work day, and sure enough, BAM! (Or, lack of bam...) It didn't start, again!

I lazily walked my little butt into my mother's room and asked to borrow her Jeep.

All is well, till I HIT A STICK! on a turn, never saw it coming. BAM! (really this time) it clunked out of my way. 'That hit pretty hard..' I thought to myself, almost to the turn to work.

So, halfway into the lake property, I am going up a hill and heart thunk thunk thunk and it's very ....bumpy. Oh no, I had to pull over! Just as I did so, I looked to the side, and sure enough, MY TIRE was flat. Yep, that stick did a wonderful job. Sometimes mother nature has the urge to stick out a limb and trip ya eh?

Something didnt want me to go to work today.

Then by the end of the day, I was so afraid of driving a car again, I broke down when my father half ass fixed it with the spare.. and asked me to drive. Such bad luck, gah, who would have thought?!

:flamed: I can shake it off.

Just a random guess, but do you drive an automatic? (Just confirmed in chat it's an automatic.)

When your car fails to start, does it even try? Or is there nothing?

If it's nothing, have them check the Neutral Start Switch. It's a little doodad that checks to make sure the car is in Park/Neutral before it starts. (Otherwise the car would tend to lurch forward.) If the switch is bad, or out of whack it might be falsely reporting that the Transmission is in the wrong gear.

Sometimes just rocking the car back and forth a little bit is all it takes. Sometimes you have to adjust it a little bit and sometimes you have to replace it. Thankfully on many cars it's easy as hell to get too so adjustments/replacements don't take anything to do and it's a cheap part.

I'd have the electrical system looked at... could be a wire somewhere else in the car that has been rubbing on the frame and is no partly exposed occasionally shorting...

I absolutely hate car problems. Couldn't care less what type of car I'm driving, as long as it starts when I want it to, gets me to where I'm going, and doesn't get stolen while I'm parked. (Well, being carjacked would probably be worse.) In my next life, I'd like my circle of friends to include a car mechanic, an electrician and maybe a lawyer. (Do lawyers have real friends?)

There is a radio show on National Public Radio called Car Talk. In our area, it plays on Sunday afternoon. Listeners can call in during the show, and the two guys who moderate the show answer questions about potential or current car problems. They are very good at what they do, and with gracious good humor will always offer the least expensive option.

You can also send in your questions to them on line, or look at one of the forums to see if someone else is having the same trouble.

Might consider sending in your repetitive car problem to them, and see if they can suggest something your current mechanics haven't tried.

Good luck!

That would tend to result in blown fuzes or a car that just suddenly dies.

Of course we don't have much in the way of a description to work with. Oblina, give us more details chica. Tell us what's happenin.

Okay, so when it starts up, it goes ding ding and all but it wont crank.

They tried hammering in something on the bottom, (I dont know whaaat) but it always works, then the next day, it's doing it again.

if i recall correctly (not much of a car geek) it's the capacitor between the starter and the battery.

who told you the starter was new?

I've replaced 2 starters and 2 alternators and a bunch of other shit all because of the same damn problem. you think that by NOW they might have some clue about what's going on...but they don't. hope that piece of shit starts to work for you tai :D
