Car (Toyota Corolla 2006) making metal scratching / grinding sound when i

turn its power steering right? My car (Toyota Corolla 2006) making metal scratching / grinding sound from the right side. It started happening yesterday, when I was driving in local areas I turned the wheel right and the noise started coming. When i brought it back it stop.... Today I was going to work and it started happening again but this time initially it came only when i turned it right but then constantly even if i was driving straight. I tried pressing foot and hand brakes as if there is something wrong with them, but both appear to work fine. Any idea what could be wrong. The service of the car is due which i will get it done next month but just to get an idea if its a major (costly) problem or some small problem?
Any advice?
 
Could be worn out brake pad on that side is grinding metal to metal. They usually last longer than that, but if you use the brakes much more than average, it could be added wear that shortened the life. Another thing it could be is the inner fender shield being loose and out of place, contacting the wheel. You can see that if you look in the wheel well. Take off the wheel and look at the brake rotor; It should be smooth and flat, with no grooves. If it looks rough or has grooves deep Go on and have it replaced along with a new set of brakes. The front brakes last about half as long as the rear brakes, which should still have lots of material on them. Have them checked anyway. If they're only half worn, don't bother changing them, but check them again after next summer. Have them adjusted.
 
check to see if some debris has lodged itself into the wheelwell or strut assembly, something may have came loose also.

Also check the PS fluid level
 
also check the wheel bearing that is the sound they make when no good. and yes the sound does get worse as you explain. this is the most common problem for what you describe
 
my mom had something similar happen to her.
the problem was the guard for the brake rotor was bend into the rotor somehow.
idk how but i bent it back out and the problem stopped.

but it could be the power steering. check the smaller stuff first.
check the fluid level on the power steering.
