Not a show and tell. This was Combat Engineer demolitions school, at an Engineer Caserne in Munich. Before the fall of the Berlin Wall, every bridge and every road was wired for demolitions, to stop the Ruskies coming in through the Fulda Gap with falling obstacles where there were no bridges, and every one of those sites had a "5 Ton" bunker full of explosives nearby, camouflaged very well, you would have never guessed it, even looking at it. Somebody had to know what to do at the right moment, and that was what the school was about. Yep, mucho hands on.
 
He is not really a test pilot; some of us started testing it 40 or more years ago and it works. It is funny how some who just started riding ridicule those who have been riding for years.
 
Ahhh Ok...very cool. I've heard of those defensive measures, but, sadly, I never made it to Europe for a tour. All my overseas stuff was in the pacific. Anyways...back to the thread topic....

Bob, that is a really good idea. I'll post info tomorrow. Right now I am in transit to Central Texas, I am in a rest area about 20 miles east of El Paso on I-10. I also need to post info on changing bearings the easy way, etc, lol

This is obviously a pretty active forum with a lot of very knowledgeable and experienced folks. Yet, it seems this is an almost universally new topic to most on here. You and a small group might have been doing this for "40-years" but you must not have told too many about it, and, if it was such a good thing why hasn't the mainstream tire manufacturers already moved in to take over the MC tire market? I'm sure they'd rather use a product they've already spent the working capital on than have to invest to bring another solution to market.
 
I'm still waiting for the guy who said he was an insurance adjuster to let us know whether your insurance is voided by running a car tire. I still bet it is.
 
This thread got my attention and I guess in the end, I have to agree with you that MC tires should remain on MC's and car tires on cars...In this day and age, there is so much testing and as much as you can probably get away with a car tire and hence more mileage. You are giving something up. What we need is for the dealers/manufacturers to provide a tire/labor package that is desirable for riders that put on miles as 10-12K for a tire is not much when you put on 25-30K a year. Metzler on the back is upward of $300.00 at a dealer.
 
Does anyone here have contacts in that area? Although no matter the outcome, some wouldn't be convinced. I for one would like to see hard evidence and not anecdotal evidence.
 
Agree! I like the fact that motorcycle tyres increase their contact patch when leaning over, to improve grip. It's designed into them. I don't see much evidence of that yet with a car tyre.
