Car tire on my Road King

Yeah, low to mid-30s (32-34) are generally what most guys run their CT at. I haven't switched to CT yet but it's almost certain my next tire will be a CT. When I see that I'll need to spend >200 bucks to get a new rear MT and I can get a wider CT for half of that, it's pretty intriguing. In addition, I've never been able to put more than 7,500 miles on a rear tire and the 407 I have now will probably take me to 8,500 miles tops. A CT will last at least 25,000 to 30,000 miles with better grip (much better on wet), higher load rating, and shorter braking distance.
Kind of a no-brainer, in my opinion.
I'm gonna wait until I ride a bike with a CT in Aug and most likely, I'll pull the trigger after that.
Take it easy.

Ok to each his own but where are you buying your Dunlap's from? 200.00 plus dollars for one? Your getting ripped off. My last rear was 110.00 w/ free shipping and it arrived at my door in two days. So if your going to switch because of price, have you ever thought of maybe searching for better prices. Try Jake Wilson and look up coupons to save even more. Not knocking anyone who does this, as I've said to each his own. Just don't see the benefit when you can get the mc tires for next to nothing also. Good luck with this, keep the rubber side down.

Take a look at the price for the new Dunlop 180/65B16 that goes on the Road King. Around $250 just for the rear tire, and yes I have looked around some already. I have 3800 miles on mine and am figuring out the best way to digest this expense.

Dude,
No offense but if you'd checked my signature, you'd seen that I have a 2009 Ultra. The rear tire is a 180. Much more expensive than the 140 of older models and I know where to shop for good deals, trust me.
Take it easy.

I'm a little confused about the 8500 miles you said you expected to get out of your rear tire. I thought the 09 and newer bikes with the 180's were getting much better than that. I've heard of some getting 18K or better. I remember you saying you were not an aggressive rider?

I just checked at Jakewilson.com for a rear tire for my 2010 RK 180/65B/16 152.00 with no coupon. I guess the guy who said don't believe everything you read here was right????

No way my rear tire would go 18K or better and I don't believe someone can get that with a 407, unless he include mileage while trailering his bike. lol
I had 4/32 left on mine at 7,200 miles so I figure by the time I reach 8,500 miles, it'll be shot.
When I say I'm not an aggressive rider, I was only referring to scraping the boards. I'm riding reasonably fast, 99.9% duo and the roads here in PA are anything but straight with crappy asphalt.

I had an 09 EGC that I put 14K on the rear tire and it still looked good when I sold the bike to get one with ABS. I rode two up all the time. I also rode 75% of the time in the smokies. What air pressure are you running? I ran 40 PSI solo and 42 two up. Just saying!

Yeah, I saw that too, and I also saw that this price is for the future American Elite which won't' be available until Sep 27.
In the meantime, the only alternatives available are the OEM 407, and Avon or Metzeler 180/60 or 180/70. All 3 in the 180-200 bucks range.
