Car tire on my Road King

I ran a car tire on a gl1800 wing with good results. Did so on the advice from a retired crop duster from Texas who was tired of mc tire blowouts. A big thing I noticed was tracking straight over rode snakes which previously, on mc tires, would result in deviation. Funny part was easier low speed handling when going straight, funny in that I hardly had to put my feet down to balance at a stop. I was about #350 darksider on their forum and, same as here, only the ones not using were negative. When time comes I`ll be putting a ct on my Roadglide. I`m surprised the run flat applicability hasn`t been mentioned more. Gravel, rain, cracks and road snakes are negotiated much better with ct`s on the back of a motorcycle from my experience. The ride is much improved also at 28psi. A darksider also posted footprints comparing mc`s with ct`s. Ct`s were bigger even rolled on their sides simulating turns.

I think the car tire will work, it seems like a lot of people like them who have tried them.
A car tire should last for a long long time too. At least 30 or 40,000 miles I would think. That beats the hell out of a MC tire.

lowflyer: I agree with you on everything except for part about taking advice from a Crop Duster. The ones I've known are a little out there for me. Maybe it's from inhaling all those chemicals for all those years. lol

Frenchbiker,

The General Altimax was my first choice, but the closest size is 205/55-16 and I think that my rim (16X5) might be a little too narrow. I wanted a tire that wouldn't affect my speedo.
People with 5" wide rims that have done their input in the Dark Side database are generally using 195/60-16. To me, it was one of these three:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?width=195%2F&ratio=60&diameter=16&x=52&y=13

Obviously, my choice was the high performance tire and I am really glad, the thing sticks like glue.
For folks up north, take a look at the winter tire.

Regards,

alright done some research and thinking myself, bought my mag rims . and i am almost in need of a rear tire. guess i am going to the ct. hell if i don't like it i can always go back.. but the idea of getting 30,000 miles between changes sounds realy good to me. . just have to decide weather i go with dunlop sp 5000 or bridgstone turanza ? semper /fi marines

Here is some infor from Dunlop:

Note the warning about matching front and rear tires.

Anyone check to see if their insurance company will still stand behind you if you have an accident with a CT on your bike?

That question has been answered at least once already in this thread. I'm not normally one to say "use the search function" but... sheesh... it's right here in this thread.

That's what search is for. Type "insurance" in "Search this Thread" and you'll only see the posts containing the word.
It's easy, even an idiot can do it ..........
