you need to open the hood and let it cool down all the way, squeeze the big black hose that goes into the top of your radiator, if its soft, then that means its safe to open the radiator, check the coolant, if its low then just add some fluid, or just bring it into a shop to get it checked...whatever you do, DO NOT drive or let it run when it gets hot, you WILL blow up your engine...whenever in dought, just pull over and shut it off and open the hood to let out the heat...NEVER open a hot radiator...get it fixed or you will be sorry, i promise you that...hope this helps....bye

Over the past few days I've noticed that the fan seems to be coming on more than normal and yesterday I went to Wendy's and got a baked potato and while sitting in line I watched as the temp gauge fairly quickly went from about normal all the way almost beyond the hot line. No steam/smoke was emitted and no lights came on on my dashboard the fan just kicked on. Once I pulled out of the drive-through line the gauge went to the the middle instantly. I got home and put my hand over the hood to check for heat coming off of it. Nothing. I put my hand on the hood and it wasn't too hot...it seemed fairly normal.

I just had my thermostat replaced last year because it was "stuck open."
What's going on with my car?
