i got a new headunit installed professionally today. the problem is when the engine turns off and the immoblizer and alarm is set. when i go back to disarm and start the engine the stereos memory is completely reset. is this because of the immoblizer/alarm if so is it common and is there a way to fix to this at all?

take it back them. your constant 12 volt wire is not hooked up. this runs directly from your battery to your radio.

Sounds like the "professional" job wasn't that professional.
There's two power wires in most stereos, one that provides a constant current and one that shuts off when you shut off the engine. The constant current wire is meant to supply a trickle of power to the components to maintain the memory (otherwise it would drain your battery).
I suggest you take it back to the shop right away and ask them to look into it and let them know you did not have this problem before.
