Car stereo is not working, help?

My stereo plays music, but the buttons don't work. Currently I have it on CD mode so I have a CD in, and it plays fine, but I can't eject the CD, if i mess with the volume too much it will stop working, it does not let me change songs, mute, or go to radio. Basically none of the buttons work but the volume lets me rotate it a few times and then stops working. When the volume stops working I have to either take off the faceplate and put it back on or turn my car off and back on. The buttons are lit up, but the the words won't show up on the screen. Occasionally it does work and will allow me to change songs, etc. but it stops working after awhile. What is wrong and is there anyway I can fix it or will i have to get a new faceplate or could the wiring just be messed up? What should I do?

you need to buy a new one. sorry but these things are annoying and once they start to not work they dont get fixed. and plus they arnt all that expensive to replace these days. a lot cheaper than it would ever be to actually get it fixed. just find a friend who is a mechanic cos then you can save money and then get them to put it in for you as it is an easy job.
