Car Stereo Installation Problem?

I am not good at all with stereo installations, but one of my friends is decent with them. He recently installed a deck with sub and amp in his car, so he has general knowledge on installation. I am replacing my Eclipse 3100 with a Pioneer one (don't remember model).

We replace the old wire harness with the new one that fits the pioneer and we turn the accessories on and nothing comes up. Long story short we find that the yellow wire which is supposed to have the always-on 12v power is only getting about 1v. The red wire that is the accessory wire is getting 12v. We also double check the ground wire and that it working fine.

I guess i am wondering if anyone here knows what might be going on?

We also checked all the fuses and they seemed to be fine. My eclipse decked worked before we took it out. We also did not have to use any force when removing the old one, so i am not sure what is wrong with the yellow wire.

Thanks

did you try hooking the eclipse back up just to see if you have the same problem.

Maybe during the install a wire got pulled to hard

Did you check the voltage on that yellow wire while the car is running, also with key in the accessory, and without the key see if the voltage changes

Before you begin, was your previous radio connected using the accessory wire as well? ( Did the radio work with your ignition off? )

If it was...

First thing you need to do is test your power wires as it sounds like you have the wires crossed.

With your ignition off, test the wires for power. The one with the 12v with your ignition off should be connected to the yellow wire.

Then test the other power wire by switching your ignition off and on. If it receives the 12volts only when igntion is on, then it is your accessory or RED wire connection.

That should sort it ...
