Hi there. Was driving in rain last night. Car seemed fine but then I stopped to go into a takeaway. I came back started the engine but as it was heavy rain I couldn't hear if the engine was on so I held the ignition for longer than I normally do. It was at this point the car was shaking heavily as if it was about to stall. The car became very slow to drive and I needed to stay in lower gears than usual to keep the speed up. Putting my foot down didn't make the revs go up quicker. The car was so loud it brought a lot of attention when driving through the streets, best described as sounding like a go-kart. It was like this all night while delivering but then I left it for an hour as there were no orders. The car seemed fine in terms of speed at this point but it still sounds horrible. Throughout this time it seems the petrol consumption went up according to in car MPG readout. The car is a Renault Clio S Reg RXE. Thanks for reading, hope you can help!

Some part of the ignition system got wet, probably the distributor. Make sure there are no baffles missing to prevent water spray from getting to it.
They sell 'dryers' in aerosol form, may be worth throwing one in the trunk/boot, WD40 is supposed to help. There is a mention in this forum of the windshield wipers diverting water because of some missing weather stripping, may be worth checking.
