It seems like Ford has been improving the quality of their cars. Do you think Ford can be compared to Toyota's and Honda's quality wise, or is Ford still at the "bottom" quality wise because it's an American car?

- Detailed answers are very much appreciated.

I think that Ford is heading down the right path, but it not quite up to par with Honda.

Realistically, I think Ford has caught up with Toyota in overall reliability, but I do not believe that the public perceives them as equals.
The difference in residual value proves it (Toyotas still hold their value far better than Ford).

Americans are very forgiving, but it also takes them awhile to earn their trust.
I think that when the recession is over, if Ford can put together a string of 3-5 years in a row where they are putting together reliable cars, then the public perception will shift and we will be proud to buy American once again.

I have tolerated all the jokes for FORD-> found on road dead, fix or repair daily. To date, I have owned 5 Fords, 1 Chevy and 1 Datsun. Chevy and Datsun ripped me off on repairs and as much as I loved the cars(Camero and 200SX), I couldn't wait to get rid of them. The Camero rusted out in 4 years. The Datsun was full of engineering flaws.
I have returned to Ford time and time again. The mechanics treat me with respect, the cars don't rust and they don't fail me in bad weather. Toyota, well, my brother ran a junk yard. He would say this about Toyota: if Ford needs one bolt, Toyota uses three. Toyota does overkill and you pay the price .

Ford is a quality auto maker. Id think its even with toyota and honda. American cars get bad raps because in the 70s the concept of the disposable car was born, something cheap that doesnt last forever (good for sales). American Cars are nothing like they were in the 70s now. Alot of this ohh ford is crap stuff you keep hearing about is often made by people who either never owned a ford or by people who have owned a for that had been neglected of basic services that ever car needs to survive.

I have owned Toyota cars in the past.
I have owned Fords products.
Right now I own several Fords and Mazda products. I will not own another Toyota. Toyota may have quality for the first 50K miles, but not long term.
At least that is my experience.

I think that ford can be compared if not better than toyoto and honda. My wife just bought a ford edge and it is aewsome. I have always owned an american vehicles and to me it seems like they are better built than that of toyota and honda
