Can a deteriorating alternator cause a car to kind of "jerk" or feel like its kicking into gear? I have a 1995 Monte Carlo.
I dont know much about SERIOUS car problems and for about a little over a year I've went to shops and told them the symptoms and basically told them check everything out and tell me all thats wrong so I can get it all done and over with. I'm not sure if they got over on me (i think they did). I'm not sure if the other problems they said I were really were valid and if they couldnt find the main problem but it continued to "jerk" while I drove. Shops had told me every thing saying I needed new motor mounts, to new spark plugs and cables, starter......I got all of that fixed and it still continued to kind of kick into gear.
One shop checked the transmission and said it was fine. About 3 months ago or so I started hearing a squeak coming from the belt area and I took it to another guy asking about basically this same problem as before..PLUS this new "squeaking" noise. Now this guy was saying I needed a new air compressor as if it was causing all the problems. Well recently after running errands one day I came home and couldnt get the car to crank back up. I thought it was the battery, I got a new one and it still wouldnt crank. My friend's dad told me he thinks it's the alternator
Could it have been a diminishing alternator that was causing all of these kick and Gos over this past year or so? What are the symptoms of an alternator that is malfunctioning? What I named above???
