I'm a bit confused by this one.... I just bought a 2000 Mazda Protege DX 2 days ago, and they JUST replaced the alternator the day before that. I bought the car and the next day it started overheating after about an hour straight of driving it.
I put some water in and it still ran a bit hot but made it home.... Later that night I drove it about 20 mins to see how it acted, and it ran a little hotter than normal, so I cut it off and pulled over to let it cool off for a bit. 5 mins later I started it and it struggled to start but ultimately did start. 5 mins after that it slowly died.... losing power with the lights going dim and such, and stopped a few feet from my home.
Yesterday day I tried to start it and it started to turn over but didnt start, so I jumped it, and it started right up, but even after 2 jumps and 10 mins running, it died almost immediately after taking the jumper cables off. Just now I turned on the lights and they do come on, but when I try to start it it turnd very briefly then goes dead. So.... battery or alternator?
