decelerating from 4000 to 3500? Nissan X-Trail 4WD, 70,000 miles, manual front wheel DRIVE

Have recently got my engine overhauled. Since then I am observing some metallic rubbing kind of sound from front of the car(Woooooo..Woooooo.). Sound starts exactly at 3500 rpm, continues to be there till 4000 rpm and beyond this disappears. Removing foot from pedal brings the sound back at 4000 rpm until RPM drops down to 3500 (even louder but same sound). But pressing clutch down at 4000 rpm causes no sound to be heard (Perhaps because rpm drops quickly ??). No sound when car is idle, or on the hoist.
I guess engine to be OK. Is this could be exhaust system? or transmission, or differential or something else? Mechanic is not able to find the source, but says most probably it is from the drive train.
For more than three months, I am desperate to find the solution, hope, will get some possibilities to isolate the problem.
Many thanks in advance
