Car insurance sucks.

Especially when you're (almost) 19.

I've entered in like five models and to get good insurance it's gonna set me back at least $4,000 a year.

I'd get the $2000 insurance but with so many rich people driving Lexuses, Beamers, and Hummers around here I don't wanna be financially fucked for ten years if I hit someone.

This really sucks.

Yeah, it's like $500 a month here after the break from completed driver's ed course. (For a young driver, such as myself).

GOOD THING I HAVE MY MOM TO PAY FOR IT LAWL

That's nice. I actually take pride in making money however I can and working for what I get. Even when my parents give me shit I have to earn it.

Descent, unfortunately you are an 18-22 year old male living in one of the highest taxed regions of the nation. I feel your pain, bro.

There are some things you can do to lessen the impact.

1) Don't drive a red car. Seroiusly, they'll charge you more for that.
2) Keep your driving record clean. No moving violations will ensure your insurance will decrease.
3) Drive less. A car insured for leisure will cost less then one insured for heavy driving. If you can walk/take mass transit places.. you'll see your rates go down.
4) If your car is going to be older than a 2000 model, don't bother getting comprehensive. No one is gonna steal it. If your car is worth less than, say.. $2000, avoid getting collision. If you're in an accident where the damage is worth more than the car, it isn't worth insuring. Liability is unavoidable (and on Long Island, often a lifesaver).

I hear ya. I'm on liability only and it's around $180 a month. It just jumped $40, and I don't know why. I'm switching companies soon anyway.

Shop around and find the best deal. Take drivers ed and show them your card when you sign up. That shit can save you $50 a month or more.

I'm paying $110 a month for MINIMUM LIABILITY COVERAGE on my Camaro.

I think that should drop down to around $75 or so on my next coverage period, though.

And you knwo what's REALLY frustrating about paying $110 a month for next to no coverage?

My car hasnt moved in 2 months because of a spun main bearing.

If I cancel the insurance, I wont get that break on my next 6 month period, and I have to deal with the state of georgia hounding my ass for proof of insurance or they'll pull my registration. And that';s just a PITA...

So I just pay the shit every month anyway.

And I dont believe the red car thing, I've never had to fill out a quote where I had to tell them what color it is. I dont think it's true anymore. My car is red, but I know for a fact that my insurance company doesnt know that.

Sorry, I love whoring my car!

Paid for that sucker in cash!

Yeah I've known all that. What I wanna know is this: Why does a Hyundai Sonata cost $200 more to insure than an Oldsmobile Intrigue?

Doesn't the Sonata have EVERY safety feature that gives you a discount besides daytime running lights?

Are they spooning the American automakers or am I missing something here? They are even the same year. And the Intrigue is fucking red (But they didn't ask me about the color).

This is one subject I'm glad I'm fucking old for. My insurance is only $65 a month. I've never been in a wreck that was my fault, only got one speeding ticket in my entire life (this does not mean I don't speed though lmao....). It's really lame to say this, but I didn't even get my license until I was 23. I never had the need to, public transit always served my purpose, and everything I needed was 4 blocks away, including the club I used to work at. If you're not an idiot driver, it pays off later in life.

I'm 17, I've had two tickets, I'm on court supervision, and I drive a red car... and my insurance is still only $80 a month. I'm not really sure how we managed that, but it's pretty nice.

Did the insurance company ask how medicated you are? That's one of the few reasons I could see for insurance being that high. That or they have some custom rulesets, like if your favorite game system is SEGA or your favorite games include Descent.

As for why the Hyundai Sonata costs more to insure, it's likely because it costs more to repair should it ever be damaged or in an accident.

I'm without insurance right now. Since the baby came, that became the least important bill, so it lapsed at the end of August. I'm getting back Wednesday though. BUt regardless, Dustin and I were only paying $170/mo for a 98 Cavalier and a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee. He has a spotless record, I've been in one at fault accident, no tickets (been pulled over 19 times but never got a ticket.) We have liability on my car and full coverage on his Jeep because it has a lean on it.

Yeah, car insurance sucks. Its expensive.

Just wait until it you actually live on your own, have to pay all the bills.

And, 400$ a month is pretty high...I've actually never heard of it being that high. Unless you are trying to get full coverage on a used car, in which case you are a dumb shit. Liability only covers you IF YOU HIT SOMEONE.

Don't forget too, your credit score is also a factor in determining your insurance rate. The insurance companies don't have to tell you that little tid-bit.
